The Darkest Corners
The Darkest Corners | Kara Thomas
"Gripping from start to finish, The Darkest Corners took me into an underbelly I didn't know existed, with twists that left me shocked and racing forward to get to the end."-Victoria Aveyard, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Red Queen For fans of Gillian Flynn's Dark Places and Sara Shepard's Pretty Little Liars, The Darkest Corners is a psychological thriller about the lies little girls tell, and the deadly truths those lies become. There are ghosts around every corner in Fayette, Pennsylvania. Tessa left when she was nine and has been trying ever since not to think about it after what happened there that last summer. Memories of things so dark will burn themselves into your mind if you let them. Callie never left. She moved to another house, so she doesn't have to walk those same halls, but then Callie always was the stronger one. She can handle staring into the faces of her demons--and if she parties hard enough, maybe one day they'll disappear for good. Tessa and Callie have never talked about what they saw that night. After the trial, Callie drifted and Tessa moved, and childhood friends just have a way of losing touch. But ever since she left, Tessa has had questions. Things have never quite added up. And now she has to go back to Fayette--to Wyatt Stokes, sitting on death row; to Lori Cawley, Callie's dead cousin; and to the one other person who may be hiding the truth. Only the closer Tessa gets to the truth, the closer she gets to a killer--and this time, it won't be so easy to run away. More Praise for The Darkest Corners: "A tight, twisted thriller, full of deft reversals and disturbing revelations--deeply, compulsively satisfying!"-Brenna Yovanoff,New York Timesbestselling author ofThe Replacement "As dark as Gillian Flynn and as compulsive asSerial...Kara Thomas's mystery debut is intricate, chilling, and deeply compelling. Unforgettable!"--Laura Salters, author ofRun Away [STAR] "Thomas carefully crafts the suspense, leaving present-tense narrator Tessa--and readers--to doubt even those she loves the most... An unsettling story of loss, lies, and violence lurking in the shadows of a small town."--Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review From the Hardcover edition.

This was a pretty solid story. It had a lot of good twists and very interesting characters. I really love how this author puts so many pieces of a puzzle together to make her books come to life. I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of it and really enjoyed the premise and how it ended. It definitely shocked me in some parts and would recommend!

❐ SMALL TOWN MYSTERY ❐ YA PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER ❐ COMPELLING & UNPREDICTABLE ❐ THAT FINAL REVEAL IS BANANAS
Kara Thomas hasn't disappointed me yet...she can really write a YA mystery/thriller story that not only keeps you guessing but also feels believable, which can be difficult in the YA genre. While I felt like they were some plotholes or elements that were not explained or lacked resolution...it's possible it was just me missing it.

This is my second book by Kara Thomas and I have to remember, she hits you with the twists and surprises, not with one big one, but over and over again, especially when you think there won‘t be another. This book is no different. It is a good mystery which keeps the surprises until the end. I will watch out for them on the next book...I am pretty sure, maybe.

I read one of this authors books (The Cheerleaders) about a month ago and I really enjoyed it. So when I saw her other two books at Barnes & Noble I just had to pick them up. This book was full of twist and I didn't see the ending coming at all!

Lovesbooks87 This was also my second book in the #twointhree Labor Day weekend challenge. Thanks for putting this together @Samplergal ! 6y

Pinched nerve and possible slipped disc means no carrying hardcovers in my purse and only reading them at home with the book on a big stack of pillows. Grabbing time to read this one whenever I'm able to be resting at home. #currentlyreading

Just finished this one today! Very glad I didn't read it at night. Creepy serial killer story that emphasizes that we never really know who to trust.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. There was a lot that went on in the book but it maintained a good pace. The ending was surprising which I liked but I do wish there had been more details to certain aspects of the ending. I would still highly recommend this if you enjoy a good crime drama/thriller.

This was a pleasant surprise read for me. I do enjoy a good mystery/suspense novel and this one was better than I had expected. There is a lot that goes on in the story but I think it maintains a good pace throughout. There were some moments at the end that made me feel so-so about it, but overall I really enjoyed it.

I am adding this to my list of thrilling beach reads. My only complaint is that I found it a bit repetitive at times. Otherwise, overall enjoyable read. The twists were surprising and unexpected. I would certainly buy another book by this author.

When a book is mailed to you in a box taped EVIDENCE, and it is wrapped in an evidence bag, and comes with fake newspaper clippings related to the crime ... You know you're in for a treat. Did not expect the ending, well-written, highly recommended. Not just for a YA reader.

Dark, intense, and engrossing Ya mystery. I loved this one. It's a departure from the author's previous YA series called Prep School Confidential. How everything came together in the end was unexpected and shocking. I recommend.
