Time Traveler's Guide to Elizabethan England
Time Traveler's Guide to Elizabethan England | Ian Mortimer
An entertaining, accessible guide to Elizabethan England the latest in the Time Traveler s Guide series Acclaimed historian Ian Mortimer shows readers that the past is not just something to be studied; it is also something to be lived. Using diaries, letters, books, and other writings of the day, Mortimer offers a masterful portrait of daily life in Elizabethan England, re-creating the sights, sounds, and customs of the sixteenth century from the perspective of both peasants and royals. Through this lens, we can begin to understand Queen Elizabeth s subjects not only as a people profoundly shaped by the time in which they lived, but also as the people who shaped the world we know and the people we are today."

madamereadsalot1 I really like 1984. My purse is actually a 1984 tote bag from Out of Print! 5y
Zelma 1984 is always excellent when I reread it. And I liked Cameron Post quite a bit. 5y

Kaye I‘ve read the STYLES Christie book. It was ok, but I‘m not a big mystery fan, so others might like it more. I‘ve also read Map of the World but it‘s been decades so I don‘t remember a blooming thing about it. 5y

I cheated and opened my #JolabokaflodSwap package yesterday before our flight and was beyond delighted. Mo‘s Dark is one of my favorite chocolate bars, but I adore chocolate with raspberries. Thank you, @Ericalambbrown , it was perfect!

Ps. The homemade goodies are long gone.

Ericalambbrown Yay! I‘m so glad you liked it! The raspberry chocolate was glorious when I tried it at their factory so o had to share. Safe travels and have a beautiful holiday. 5y

Come with me as we take a #MagicCarpetRide through time to Elizabethan England. Stay on the carpet, because it's probably not a good idea to walk around the muck and decay on the streets. But, gaze at the life, the goods (including carpets!) that adorn the wealthier homes. Mortimer uses primary sources to dish out the real story about life under Elizabeth's reign. High on my #tbr pile. #RockinMay

Cinfhen 🙌🏻I'm ready to begin my adventure 😍 7y
SusanInTiburon I love this book! ❤️ 7y
Librarybelle I thought it sounded interesting when I bought it, @SusanInTiburon . I enjoy reading about other time periods. 7y

Just finished this book. Highly recommend if you like history. Some knowledge of the history of England is recomended but not required. But all the Edwards gets a little confusing!

Wrestling a guy to the ground? Alright.
Biting off his nose? Slight overreaction.
Swallowing the damned thing? Someone call for the priest. Exorcism needed.

But when memory embraces the night
I see those days, long since gone,
like the ancient light of extinguished stars
traveling still, and shining on.

This is an AWESOME book for anyone needing to research the 16th century, or anyone just interested in Elizabethan England or history. Mortimer walks you through 1500's London with such detail it's amazing. Learn everything from what people wore to how they treated their ill. So interesting.

Merethebookgal I started reading his Medieval England book and really enjoyed it! (I had to return it to the library before I could finish it, so I need to see if it's available again 😄) 8y
CharissaWeaksAuthor @Merethebookgal I want to read that too!! 8y
