Captive Queen
Captive Queen: A Novel of Eleanor of Aquitaine | Alison Weir
BONUS: This edition contains a Captive Queen discussion guide and an excerpt from The Lady Elizabeth. Nearing her thirtieth birthday, Eleanor of Aquitaine has spent the past dozen frustrating years as wife to the pious King Louis VII of France. But when Henry of Anjou, the young and dynamic future king of England, arrives at the French court, he and the seductive Eleanor experience a mutual passion powerful enough to ignite the world. Indeed, after the annulment of Eleanors marriage to Louis and her remarriage to Henry, the union of this royal couple creates a vast empire that stretches from the Scottish border to the Pyreneesand marks the beginning of the celebrated Plantagenet dynasty. But Henry and Eleanors marriage, charged with physical heat, begins a fiery downward spiral marred by power struggles and bitter betrayals. Amid the rivalries and infidelities, the couples rebellious sons grow impatient for power, and the scene is set for a vicious and tragic conflict that will threaten to engulf them all. Excuse the poor image!
Alison Weir has written some good fiction & non-fiction historical books. This one #AboutaKingdomRoyalty figures one of the most talked about & strong females in the British Royal Family, Eleanor of Aquitaine. It portrays the stormy relationship between her & Henry & is Historical Fiction. I enjoyed this one as an audiobook, must be honest I prefer my history in the fiction format.

TrishB Can‘t take to Weir, haven‘t liked anything she‘s done!! I think I‘m way too picky!! 6y
Andrew65 @TrishB She certainly is far from my favourite, this would be the most enjoyable one I‘ve read by her. 6y
Ubookquitous I‘m a huge fan of Weir‘s histories as well as her historical fiction - in an interview she said that writing fiction allowed her to fill in blanks she couldn‘t do in writing histories 6y

TrishB @Ubookquitous I think it‘s because I didn‘t agree with some of her filled in blanks!! Not all authors for everyone 😁 6y
Ubookquitous @TrishB lol yep - fortunately there is a wealth of variety in the book world! 6y
Andrew65 @Ubookquitous @TrishB There are certainly many great female historical fiction authors out there! 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I‘ll have to give her a read! 6y

Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II‘s love and relationship was certainly #noordinarylove Strange dynamics and turns of events and the very definition of tumultuous #FierceFeb

CarolynM Great choice! Have you seen The Lion in Winter? 6y
Cinfhen Those royals really have the lock on #NoOrdinaryLove 💗😊👍🏻 6y

TrishB Love the pair of them ❤️ @CarolynM Love The Lion in Winter she is Eleanor! @Andrew65 not a fan of Weir though. 6y
Andrew65 @TrishB Think this is the only one of Weir‘s books I have read and based on that think others do historical fiction. Good read but not quality of Sharon Penman, Elizabeth Chadwick or Conn Iggulden. 6y
Andrew65 @CarolynM Not Read the Lion in Winter Carolyn, I will have to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion. 6y
Andrew65 @Cinfhen @batsy Too true, and not just in the past if you look at the Charles and Diana story. 6y
CarolynM Sorry, should have been clearer. It's a movie - Katherine Hepburn and Peter O'Toole - it's great. 6y
Andrew65 @CarolynM Ah, right. Will check on this. 6y

My #WomanCrushWednsesday, Alison Weir. Over the years l have been making my way though all of her books, both fiction and non-fiction. I love that she tends to cover women and how they lived.
