The Heretic Queen
The Heretic Queen: A Novel | Michelle Moran
12 posts | 44 read | 34 to read
In ancient Egypt, a forgotten princess must overcome her familys past and remake history. The winds of change are blowing through Thebes. A devastating palace fire has killed the Eighteenth Dynastys royal familyall with the exception of Nefertari, the niece of the reviled former queen, Nefertiti. The girls deceased family has been branded as heretical, and no one in Egypt will speak their names. A relic of a previous reign, Nefertari is pushed aside, an unimportant princess left to run wild in the palace. But this changes when she is taken under the wing of the Pharaohs aunt, then brought to the Temple of Hathor, where she is educated in a manner befitting a future queen. Soon Nefertari catches the eye of the Crown Prince, and despite her familys history, they fall in love and wish to marry. Yet all of Egypt opposes this union between the rising star of a new dynasty and the fading star of an old, heretical one. While political adversity sets the country on edge, Nefertari becomes the wife of Ramesses the Great. Destined to be the most powerful Pharaoh in Egypt, he is also the man who must confront the most famous exodus in history. Sweeping in scope and meticulous in detail, The Heretic Queen is a novel of passion and power, heartbreak and redemption. From the Hardcover edition.

The 2nd book in the Egyptian Royals series was as great as the 1st book. In this book, the life of Nefertari, Nefertiti's niece is followed, from her perspective. Trying to live up to her aunt's legacy, and all that it comes with. The author's attention to detail and description of the Egyptian culture is fantastic.

Moran has done it again. Historical fact mixed with fantastic story-telling brings Ancient Egypt to life. Nefertari is a character you instantly love; headstrong, smart, talented & caring. Ramesses II is painted in a new light, a young king with much to learn but also a man in love. Moran writes beautifully & manages to mix accurate historical fact & description with a well-paced plot full of politics & secrets. This is a 5 🌟 book

It is a wet miserable start to the day so delving into the heat of Egypt. Moran has written another great book where she has mixed story telling with historical fact. Loving this story, will Nefertari be able to get all of Egypt to see beyond her ancestors misdeeds.

Staying in Egypt for my next read. I really enjoyed Nefertiti so I have high hopes for this book. It is also the perfect lead up to my trip to the Tutankhamun exhibition at the end of the month

Great minds think alike @TrishB - I‘ve gone with the Egyptian angle for #OmarSharif also. And this one sounds pretty good - it has some nice reviews.

Thanks for a fun start to the year @vivastory and @Cinfhen

DAY 14: Nefertari (Nefertiti‘s forgotten niece) is cast aside after her family is killed by a palace fire and posthumously labeled as heretics. She must overcome her family‘s past. This work of historical fiction is part of Moran‘s Egyptian Royals Collection. I loved all three books!

This book was pretty stellar, but then I enjoy mostly anything Michelle Moran writes. It delves into aspects of Nefertiti's reign that I didn't know much about at all. Also, it seems to be on sale this week! #historicalfiction #egypt

Another enjoyable read! Princess Nefertari was the niece of the Heretic Queen Nefertiti. She was viewed as the spare princess. Her childhood was a struggling one and she do not have any standing or status in the palace, due to her royal link with Nefertiti. But she proved to be a valuable asset and great help to Pharaoh Rameses II, especially how she helped the Pharaoh in battles. I enjoyed this book thoroughly.

If you have read Nefertiti, this is definitely a must read. The story now continues with Princess Nefertari, the niece of the former reviled queen Nefertiti. I'm halfway into the book, and I simply can't put it down. It's #Recommendsday, so if you love historical fiction or history, especially ancient Egypt, this is definitely a must read!
