#3books I haven‘t read but should

Only Revolutions- I‘ve read all of Danielewski‘s novels except this one.

Parable of the Sower- I‘ve heard such great things about this book. I got it for Christmas a couple years ago, but I haven‘t gotten to it yet.

Of Mice and Men- I feel like everyone read this in high school except me, and I‘ve been wanting to read it for ages.

Mehso-so

Finally got through this one. I love me some Danielewski but I found this tiresome. Beautiful at times, but tiresome. I don‘t have much more insight.

I‘m the prophecy prophecies pass.
Why desire dies at last.
How mountains fly. And deserts swim.
And sandstorms glass before the wind.
I defy the mighty. I turn the meek.
Only an Ass feasts along desolate streets.
And I allone am left to laugh
at all my slaughter Promises to keep.

This is a truly fun and creative book. Be prepared for one huge adventure if you decide to tackle it. I‘m really glad that I did.

The weirdest one I could find on my shelf- although I think it's actually pretty cool, inside and out. If you look close you can see the middle of the pages where the text flips upside down. Truly strange inside and out 👍🏻

Jabberwocky So much love for this author! Have you read 6y
8leagueboot I feel like the inside of his brain works differently from the rest of us... 6y
BookHermit @Jaberwocky That's my current read and I totally agree with @8leagueboot 6y

This book is quite the interesting one to read. So far my plan is read the history notes down the side for eight pages then go back and read the text. Then flip book over and repeat! It's quite the adventure.

OvyReadz Interestinggg!!!😀 6y
SoniaC @OvyReadz very much so. 6y

Beginning this journey today. It should be quite the interesting experience. I loved House Of Leaves so I'm really excited about this one. It's my #buddyread for this month.

I wonder if Pantheon was upset that Danielewski chose to follow his wildly popular House of Leaves with this dueling narrative epic poem. I probably wasn't the only disappointed college student after trying and failing to get through this. But in retrospect it seems like a cool idea- maybe it deserves #onemoretry , though I might need some more poetry practice before I attempt again. #junetunz @Cinfhen

Billypar I should probably also tag #nakedbooks for this... Not your typical naked cover at all! 7y
batsy That's stunning. 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk This one stumped me too. One of those things where I could tell it was brilliant and that I wasn't up to the challenge yet. 7y

saresmoore I can't imagine trying to read something like this on the side of assigned reading. (My college "fun" books were mostly just rereads of Harry Potter and Jane Austen.) The cover is really striking, though! 7y
Billypar @TobeyTheScavengerMonk Yeah- that was exactly my reaction. Even flipping through it now I'm tempted to try again- there's so much packed into every page. 7y
Billypar @saresmoore Definitely true- I wasn't much of a reader period outside of assigned readings- I had to relearn reading for pleasure after graduating. 7y
RaimeyGallant That cover would make a terrific puzzle. 7y
Cinfhen That cover is stunning! Worth owning just to swoon over 😍 7y
Billypar @batsy @RaimeyGallant @Cinfhen You guys should see the inside. Words in margins, upside down, backwards, different colors, crossed out... It's madness 😵 7y

I'm already reading 3-4 books at the moment and then last night I got these on sale! I have no self control. I'm excited for Only Revolutions, it looks interesting. I've been meaning to read House of Leaves, I need to buy it or get it at the library.

Pluto loved this book. A tough one to get through, but beautifully written. A story written in poems revolving around two lovers and written from both their perspectives. In order to read this book you actually read 8 pages then flip the book over and read eight pages. The stories intertwine well.

'We were allways sixteen'... Hailey and Sam. Sam and Hailey. They were there before Romeo and Juliet. And after too. A love story the barrels across the States. Everything goes back on itself... Flip the book, switch the perspective. Danielewski plays with language and narrative like no other.
