I‘m thinking of leaving Litsy, but I wanted to leave you all with a must-read book before I go. Read more women of color. And once I‘m gone, find me on insta (@thejillest) for a less-carefully-curated peek at what I‘m reading.

Surprise mail from my sweet momma. We don‘t agree on everything, but we both love a Terry Tempest Williams. Can‘t wait to start this one!

Great read about a part of history I knew nothing about. Ung says in the author‘s note “if you had been living in Cambodia during this period, this would be your story too.”

Jess7 I really want to read this one! 6y
knittedgnome I thought this was excellent! 6y
thejillest @Jess7 I‘d be happy to pass it on to you! (edited) 6y

thejillest @knittedgnome me too! Very interesting and it made me so thankful for a kitchen full of groceries 6y
knittedgnome @thejillest really does. 6y
Jess7 You don‘t want to keep it? That‘s really nice of you. @thejillest 6y
thejillest @Jess7 some books are meant to be given away ;) 6y

My tbr stack. Trying to pick a new book for bookclub, I think The Power is next?

Jess7 I‘ve heard good things about Americanah. I think my bookclub read it awhile ago 6y
thejillest @Jess7 I‘m excited to read that one! It would be a good bookclub read 6y

Borne: A Novel | Jeff VanderMeer

This is the first VanderMeer that I‘ve read, I‘m super into it. And I love the hidden bear on the cover!

CountAlaric I'll be starting Annihilation soon. I've heard good things about him 6y
thejillest @CountAlaric oo let me know how it is. I was too chicken to commit to a whole trilogy 🐓 6y
CountAlaric Its pretty small as far as trilogies go... or at least it is if you're used to 1000+ page books, anyway 6y

Too scary!! 😱😱😱😱😱😱 I can only manage a few pages at a time before I need a break.

thejillest Ended up being less scary as it progressed, but still pretty disturbing. 6y
Autumnlong I read this when I was 22 and on vacation with my mom & I ended up moving to her room in the middle of the night because I was too creeped out to sleep alone !😂 it was all that under the house stuff. Eek. 6y
thejillest @Autumnlong there‘s no way I could‘ve read it at night, it was too scary during the day! 6y

Birthday book haul 1 of 3 came in the mail today! Some of these have been on my tbr list for YEARS!

DimeryRene I just finished let‘s pretend this never happened today! So funny. ❤️❤️ 6y
thejillest @DimeryRene I‘ve read a few other things by her and they are all wonderful. Can‘t wait to get started on this one! 6y
sissynrg Have “S” and want PenPal. Where did you get your books? 6y

thejillest @sissynrg on amazon 🤭 my local bookstore went out of business so online is my only option! Did you read S yet? I‘ve heard mixed reviews. 6y
sissynrg Just remember when reading it, the joy and story are in the margins of the book. The Ship of Theseus is a bonus 6y
thejillest @sissynrg ah! Thank you, I will do that! (edited) 6y

Imagine Me Gone | Adam Haslett

Taking a break from the HoL for a bit. Another recommendation, but I‘m not super into it so far. Maybe I‘m jaded against books this year. Anyone have a book recommendation that will pull me out of my funk?

The Stones of Summer | Dow Mossman
Panpan

I finished, but I forced myself through, and admittedly I skimmed good chunks of it. I do not understand the appeal. I guess the documentary it inspired is better, but I can‘t find that anywhere. Do not read unless you‘re into torturing yourself slowly. And in italics.

This was recommended to me, it was fine. Not “The Best Book I Read All Year,” but a good enough vacation read. An interesting look at how grief affects us all in different ways.

Got my clean copy for writing notes! Since it‘s been a few years (ok, more than a few) since I read through the whole book, I‘m planning on pre-reading it before the group so I‘m *extra* prepared.

Amabear I love that card 😂😍 6y
thejillest @Amabear me too 😂 a little too accurate maybe. 6y
Amabear @thejillest 😂 did you give it to someone or get it? 6y

RachLovesTV Hahaha, that card is amazing! 6y
thejillest @Amabear I gave it to my hubby. He always catches the eye roll!! Ps I found it on Etsy by knotty cards :):):) 6y
thejillest @RachLovesTV thank you!! It made me laugh! 6y
Amabear @thejillest love! Thanks!! 6y
CountAlaric I'll be reading the whole thing from fri-sun and then starting the club with everyone else on Monday 6y
thejillest @CountAlaric great minds think alike! I want the story to be fresh on my brain (edited) 6y
CountAlaric @thejillest same here. Plus it's a book best experienced in isolation and without sleep for 72 hours 6y
thejillest @CountAlaric 😂 that‘s definitely how my first read went! 6y

In the tumult of the last two weeks I‘ve completely abandoned my #bookclub read. Sorry, book club! I‘m trying to catch up! (If only something would happen in the story. Anything. Reading this is like pulling teeth, but in italics.)

RaimeyGallant Doesn't sound promising. :) And welcome to Litsy! #LitsyWelcomeWagon Some of us put together Litsy tips to help new Littens navigate the site. It's the link in my bio on my page in case you need it. 6y
