The urge to WELL ACTUALLY some random man who I overheard say “there were 3 magic faraway tree books” while looking at this tree 🤐 the restraint! And on my birthday too 😂

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Ruthiella 😂 I know! When will such an opportunity present itself again?! There is 4 - the three that people care about - the enchanted wood, the magic faraway tree and the folk of the faraway tree and then comes the unknown fourth book (and tbh it‘s not on the same level as the others), up the faraway tree. Folio Society has me wavering on their eye wateringly expensive postage fee with this being announced so soon after Diana Wynne Jones‘ Charmed Life…

The #Enchanted Wood, the first in the series of The Magic Faraway Tree. One of my many favourite series when I was young, and I remember owning a copy of this exact edition, the 1971 Dean edition illustrations by Rene Cloke. Feeling nostalgic seeing this.🥰
#GratefulHarvest

CarolynM I had that edition too🙂 2y
batsy I remember those editions 💚 2y

This book seemed a lot more magical and adventurous when I was a young child. Still it was very nostalgic to go back and reread it as an adult. It was never a favourite of mine as a child, not like the wishing chair adventures, but it was still nice to revisit.

Good old Enid Blyton. 🥰

BookishMe 😍😍 Recently, another reader presented his reincarnation of The Magic Faraway Tree... Wait, let me try look it up ;p 4y
batsy ❤️ 4y
BookishMe His tweet - For me, it's the most wonderful book ever written. I still dream of a Faraway tree sometimes, where the branches would sprout masala dosas, filter kaapis, bajji bonda, podi idlys and other amazing delicacies. It is a classic for me :) (😋and that's how I found another online book buddy! 😀) 4y

Tanisha_A @BookishMe Hahahah! It is a classic. And i can totally understand his wishes. What a magnificent tree. Gosh! Love all those characters. Good to know you found another book buddy! 😃 4y
Tanisha_A @NeedsMoreBooks @batsy @BookishMe Beware of Dame Washalot! Hah! 😂 4y
BookishMe That name just zoomed me decades back, when I was flipping those illustrated pages 😍😍 4y
Tanisha_A @BookishMe And Mr. Whatzisname! 😃 4y
BookishMe 😆🤣😉 4y
Centique When my daughter started school at 5 one of the teachers was Mr Watson but she referred to him as Mr Whatzisname for a whole year. Must have read her that book a dozen times and she was sure it was a perfectly standard name 😂😂 4y
Tanisha_A @Centique Hahaha! That's creative I'd say, applying the learnings from a book to real life. You have a funny daughter. 😁 4y

Be still my beating heart.
My girls are reading my childhood book The Enchanted Wood.
My 11 yr old had The Magic Faraway Tree read to her in grade Prep by her teacher but I haven't had the chance to read these to either of my girls.
It's my 7 yr olds 1st time with these stories so we thought we would start at the start with this one.
I'm so excited, especially that my 11 yr old is loving it too.
Can't wait to read more with them tomorrow night!

NeedsMoreBooks My favorite series ❤️❤️ 4y

Such a sweet and adventurous tale which I shared with Miss 8 who doesn‘t normally have the focus to stick at a chapter book start to finish even if it‘s being read to her. I did have to wonder what on earth the parents were doing while their children stayed all night up a big tree with strange folk.

Jeg 😊 yes I wonder? 5y

Mehso-so

I‘m usually a big fan of classic children‘s literature, but this just didn‘t do much for me. It didn‘t seem exciting or adventurous, though it is billed as such. I understand nostalgia is a strong force when it comes to children‘s novels, but it didn‘t hold that for me either. I would recommend to young readers, though!

20. BEST is the feeling when you've gotten up uncharacteristically early to go to a Sunday market and found the book that was missing from your Faraway Tree collection with the same cover artwork, that you've been searching years for... BEST = matching sets! #readathon #30daysofreadathon

LauraBrook This is totally The Best!!!! Congratulations!!!!!! 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @LauraBrook, thank you! It made my morning (well that and the hot jam donut I had for breakfast 😂). Weirdly it's a different publisher (and much newer) but the graphics match and all the books are the same size - so I'm happy! 7y

I grew up on Blyton books, and this one was probably my favorite, so when I saw this nearly-new copy in a used bookstore for $3 yesterday, I could not resist!

LeahBergen I somehow never read this one but I was OBSESSED with The Wishing Chair! 7y

ramyasbookshelf @shawnmooney great link.. Experienced it first hand when I read this to my daughter earlier this year.. Makes me wonder if I should not read any Enid blytons anymore coz they might not be as 'magical' as I imagine them to be. 8y

Reading this to my daughter. Her first proper novel. Dame Slap is now called Dame Snap, and that's a good thing.

bedandabook This was the first book to really capture my daughter's imagination, and turn her into a bookworm. One to treasure. 8y
