When Moomintroll learns that a comet will be passing by, he and his friend Sniff travel to the Observatory on the Lonely Mountains to consult the Professors. I read some of these with my eldest when he was a boy. We loved them! Episodic children's lit with quirky characters, a philosophical bent and a touch of melancholia. Another one I mean to reread/finish...

I saw it! Sleep eluded me last night so I went in search of comet Neowise. (Its 'hair' is suspiciously like Little My's, if you ask me.) Momentous things, comets. The last time I saw one was Hale-Bopp, when I was pregnant with Miss K.

WanderingBookaneer Can you see it with the naked eye? 4y
quietlycuriouskate @WanderingBookaneer Just about, yes. It was below and slightly to the right of Ursa major. Where I am that's the most light-polluted part of the sky and I could still make it out. Binoculars put the matter beyond doubt. 4y
Soubhiville @alysonwrites this post made me think of you for obvious reasons. I will forever associate Moomins with you now. 4y
alysonimagines @Soubhiville Aww I am honored. Moomin love forever! 😍 4y
batsy Its "hair" is like Little My's! I love that! 4y

"Well, I'm not a lion," said Sniff reproachfully. "I like small adventures. Just the right size.”

Just finished posting some Labour election campaign letters, so treating myself to my second slice of cake today! Plus a pot of Earl Grey, hot!

TrishB My sons out door knocking in Weaver Vale seat. No point in Liverpool really 😁 !! 4y
Bookwomble @TrishB Good on him 😀✊🏻 Unbelievably, I do know a couple of Tory Liverpudlians - a rare breed! 4y
TrishB There are a few I believe 😁 they‘ll just never make any impact. 4y
arlenefinnigan I used to live near Broadgreen Conservative Club but they were embarrassed about being Tories so the sign said THE BROADGREEN CLUB in big letters and 'Broadgreen Conservative Club' in tiny writing underneath. 4y
Bookwomble @arlenefinnigan Ha, ha! You'd hope it would give them some empathy for other minorities! 😄 4y

Bookwomble @Weaponxgirl I got that was Moomins 👍🏻. I was impressed when my phone finally learned to predict text correctly for Gormenghast 5y
Weaponxgirl @Bookwomble that‘s impressive! I swear mine has tantrums at me, sometimes it gives me incredible intelligent words I‘ve never used in my life and then other times it will just let me try and type a word in various forms of what I know is incorrect spelling and not help me out at all 5y
Bookwomble @Weaponxgirl Mine does insist on providing 'inn' instead of 'in'. I wouldn't mind, but I rarely step for inside a pub! 5y
Weaponxgirl @Bookwomble that one makes much more sense for me 😆 5y

A Tove Jansson shelfie 💖📚💖 I'm running out of space, so had to move some other books off- shelf to fit the Jansson's in their rightful place.

saresmoore 😍 A wonderful collection of a very special author! 6y
RowReads1 Nice collection! All I see missing are the comics. 6y
Bookwomble @saresmoore she's one of my favourites 😊 6y

Bookwomble @RowReads1 I've got a couple of the comic strip collections, but they don't fit on that shelf 😊 6y
LeahBergen I loved The Summer Book (and should really pick up a copy of A Winter Book). 6y
arubabookwoman I‘ve never read the Moomin books, though I‘ve loved the 3 “grown-up” books of hers I‘ve read. As an adult, I usually don‘t care to read/reread children‘s or YA literature. Do you think the Moomin books might still be enjoyable for me? Maybe I‘ll just have to tackle a grandchild to sit down and read these with. 6y
Bookwomble @arubabookwoman I find Jansson's children's books have enough charm to satisfy my adult childlike-self. Also, while Moomintroll, a child, is the main focus, she also gives her adult characters their own voice, so I can also connect as a parent. If your grandchildren like books, I don't think you'd need to do much chikd-wrangling to get them to sit down with the Moomins 😊 6y
Bookwomble @LeahBergen The Summer Book is one of my favourites - I read so slow I don't usually have time to get thorough a book in a single sitting, but I did with this one ❤ A Winter Book is good, but be aware that is an anthology of previously published short stories rather than an original work. Necessary for the Curse of Completionism, though 😉 6y

It's surprisingly odd to pick up a book in your own language when you mostly read in English. But I had this sudden urge to reread this funny, wise little book today, even though I'm up to my neck with other unfinished books. Oh well.

But if I finish this one today, I have reached 65 books read on my Goodreads Challenge. Yay. I may celebrate it by.. adding more books to my TBR.

Pickpick

Had not read the Moomin books before but a book-loving friend highly recommended them. The story for this first book is sweet and fun and loving - full of friends and family. Lots of very subtle humour as well.

I had to buy already something for #ValentinesBookExchange . It was screaming "Litsy" when I saw it in a store while shopping for books. I don't even have my secret person yet. I just have to hope that the person matches my perfect bookish find...
