Ok so I‘ve read this book before and remember the series well now … so this doesn‘t count for a 2020 read… and I want to get through some of my backlogged tbr books 🤨📖 still love the series though 🤗

TheNeverendingTBR Oooooo that's a nifty cover! 😍 2y

I originally picked up this book, because I loved Nevernight so much
Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed & it didn't live up to my expectations

For some reason this dragged &I had trouble getting into. The world & the plot are interesting enough concepts, but the execution for me is a bit lacking & maybe this is because as I'm reading I'm subconsciously comparing it to my read of Nevernight

LazyOwl Set in a world where progress is destroying the planet & people can no longer safely breath the air without a breather/face mask as the very air is poisonous. Our main character has an ability she has to hide as it could mean she is imprisoned or even killed.

Still enjoyable and rated 3 1/2 stars.

How@do@you pick up another book after “Anxious People” ... I probably wouldn‘t if I wasn‘t an avid reader but hers to the next... I‘ll try to stay on point here at Litsy but I‘m down to my thesis work and I‘m having a hard time attending and social activities 🙄🤨🤪

I picked this up because I was waiting for the third book in Kristoff's Nevernight Chronicles and wanted to see what else he had written. And I love it, possibly more than the Nevernight Chronicles, I struggled to put it down. I'm a sucker for a bit of steampunk and this is a fantastic example. Bring on the next one.

Super descriptive, the visuals were so detailed it played like a studio Ghibli in my mind.

Mishu94 I‘m currently in the initial stages and I‘m finding it hard to follow the story, will it get better? 3y

#AMonthOfSongs #Thunder

Yukiko finds herself alone in the wilderness of the Shima Imperium, a once beautiful island nation that has been ravaged by man made environmental greed. Her only hope of finding her way comes from an alliance with a THUNDER tiger. A mythical Griffen called, Buruu.

I mean...if this isn't a reference to what we sacrifice in order to get oil then I don't know what the hell is! It was slow to start but really picked up at about 1/3 of the way in. I'm not crazy about the cultural info dumping that happened (that the author apparently used Wikipedia for). It came off as more of a fantasty than a steampunk but I actually really enjoyed this

I will finally be caught up on my Jay Kristoff after this series! I found out recently that there's some issues with the culture used in here so I'm keeping an eye out for it.

Hello Bookish lovelies!! What is your favorite cover? I honestly love these covers for the Lotus Series by @jaykristoff plus it's a Japanese fantasy steampunk! Need I say more! 😍😍😍 They're so gorgeous!

Also I'm sitting at work waiting impatiently to get off work to go grab some poke and bubble tea and get home to my awaiting @Owlcrate!! The minutes are seriously crawling people. It's horrible.

SquidsRegret

I passed on this book initially after reading the sample on kindle. But I loved NeverNight so much I decided to give Stormdancer another try and I'm glad I did. The setting is post-apocalyptic steampunk sort-of-Japan and draws on Japanese myth. Plus there's an animal sidekick, which is one of my favorite things in fiction.

The hype was crazy about this one. It did not live up to it at all. Things wrong with this book:

1- Use of Japanese pronouns/suffixes/prefixes
2- SO.MUCH.DESCRIPTION (I still remember a scene in the beginning where a simple walk is so interspersed with heavy description that I lose track of the characters' conversation)
3- Infodumping to the max
4- 1-D forgettable chars
5- Out of the blue romance

Overall: good idea, horrible execution
