The Case of the Missing Moonstone
The Case of the Missing Moonstone: The Wollstonecraft Detective Agency | Jordan Stratford
19 posts | 21 read | 12 to read
When Mary Godwin and Lady Ada Byron first meet, they dont exactly hit it off. But with crime on the rise, the unlikely pair form a detective agency to hunt down clever criminals on the streets of London. Their first case involves a stolen necklace, a false confession, and lots of suspicious suspects but these are no match for Ada and Mary. Filled with daring balloon chases, vile villains and two unforgettable heroines, The Case of the Missing Moonstone is the first in a thrilling new series; perfect for all aspiring sleuths.

This is a cute middle-grade mystery imagining the mischief Ada Byron Lovelace and Mary Godwin Shelley could have gotten into had they been contemporaries. With a supporting cast that includes Charles Dickens and Percy Shelley, this novel is an homage of sorts to the greatest creative minds of 19th-century England. A little silly and a little too modern in thinking for the time period, this is still a fun intro to the genre for young readers.

Such a fun and entertaining story. The author introduces us to Ada (Lovelace), daughter of Lord Byron, and Mary, daughter of Mary Wollstonecraft, who formed a detective agency together. Though some aspects are not historically accurate, like the girls are actually aged 18 yrs apart in history, the historical bits are enjoyable. The mystery itself is not very clever, but I loved the appearance..

A cute and clever middle grade book, first in a series that follows a young Mary Shelley and Ada Lovelace(just go with it) as they set up a detective agency and solve crimes.
There are many clever uses of other famous people throughout the book and at the end the author has included small bios and historical tidbits to explain some more of the who‘s and what‘s in the book.
Fun read, definitely recommend.

I read this Mar 15-31 & rated it 4 ⭐️. A slightly anachronistic middle grade detective story about Ada Lovelace & Mary Shelley solving a mystery. Ada is very much a Sherlock Holmes character with Mary being her Watson. It was a fun read and I am looking forward to the next book.

This is kid‘s book (middle grade) but I had to check it out because I love Ada Lovelace and Mary Shelley! The premise was just too good. I do think this is a brilliant book for kids and a bit of fun for adults who are into history, literature, and science.

PickwickPlockPlock That sounds great! I would have to read The Moonstone first, though. 4y

I really enjoyed this audiobook! I've read this middle grade mystery a year ago and liked it. While I don't reread books, I do listen to audiobooks over and over. There is just something comforting about being read a story.

I found one book on my shelves with a balloon (although not a party balloon) but no streamers or confetti 🙁. I know I don't have to literally only use what's on my bookshelves but it's fun and surprising to see what I can find 😃🎉

Book mail today! The top two are kids' books, the top used, the second came out today. A Homemade Life was used, suggested by @Jill1 here on Litsy. Cooking for Picasso came from Random House. And the bottom one I saw here too. I forgot to include The Good Cookie cookbook, recommended by @SaraFair . You guys are expensive friends!!! And of course 2 mugs I bought through Book Riot.

Lizpixie I need some book themed mugs in my life. The p&h from the states and u.k is a killer though 8y

Enjoyed this mystery read for elementary/middle grade readers. Love the historical figures as characters. Ada and Mary are great fun, and I can't wait to see where their inventive minds take them next.
