This was charming. Bea's sleuthing was humorously unsubtle and her interactions with the pompous Duke had me chuckling more than once. I'll read more in the series.

I stand by my assessment of book #11 in this series. The characters are utterly ridiculous. The plot of this Regency cozy mystery was cheesy, but filled with shenanigans. The elements all combine into a delightful, light, and quick read - perfect as a palate cleanser between dark or heavy books.

robinb Love this review! 😆 Food for thought….thanks for the tag! 😊 9mo
DGRachel @robinb I think if you have Kindle Unlimited, it‘s definitely worth at least trying the first one, but to be brutally honest, I don‘t think I‘d pay $6 per book. I wish I could get them from my library. 9mo
robinb @DGRachel I hear you. I noticed that the first one is $2.99, which (cheapskate that I am) is about my budget for new ebooks. 😂 I don‘t have KU. Plus, I‘m not huge on “cozies” (no offense) so I was also wondering if this definitely falls into that category. (edited) 9mo
DGRachel @robinb no offense taken. It‘s very light. If it goes on sale (like try the first in series free) give it a try, but definitely don‘t spend money. My mom qualified for a free KU trial and we share a Kindle library, so I now have KU and will continue the series, but that‘s the only reason. 9mo
robinb @DGRachel 👍👍 Sounds like a good plan. Thanks! 9mo

Book 11 is not in the database. I‘ve tagged the 1st in the series. It‘s a light, cozy mystery set in Regency England, with an MC who reminds me a bit of Raybourn‘s Veronica Speedwell. Ridiculous, madcap characters make this an entertaining if completely unbelievable escape from reality. This can be read as a standalone although there are tons of references to past cases which might make this more enjoyable. I do want to go back to read the 1st.

DGRachel Kind of related-does anyone else feel like LibraryThing is leaving Litsy to die? I can‘t add books from the website, posting and commenting is delayed and/or sketchy, and notifications seems to an issue, too. It makes me very sad. I wish they‘d either fix up or fess up. 😤 1y
TracyReadsBooks Yeah, Litsy has been very glitchy of late. Definitely a bummer. 1y
mrp27 I don‘t really use any other book sites than Litsy so it‘s hard for me to compare. I agree it‘s been kinda glitchy this past year with delays on posts/comments. For months the editing option for pictures did not work for me. I am to starting to feel like Litsy is dying a very slow technical death and someone else had commented there hasn‘t been an update for like 3 years. I love it here, hoping it gets figured out and fixed. A bummer indeed. 1y

Suet624 Onward Litsy on Facebook is a place to post comments about the app. Often someone in the company will respond. Recently it‘s been really glitchy and annoying, for sure. 1y
Suet624 I just posted a question on the facebook site and Tim Spaulding could see what may be the issue. In the future you may want to post any app questions there. Tim is very responsive. 1y
robinb Hey Rachel @DGRachel ! The series starter for this keeps popping up in my Amazon newsletters. Did you ever go back to continue with it? I‘m debating on starting it. Thanks! 9mo
DGRachel @robinb I‘d completely forgotten about it! I just finished an audiobook and don‘t have another lined up, so I‘m going to use my Audible credit and listen this weekend. Thanks for the reminder! 9mo
robinb @DGRachel you may wish I hadn‘t reminded you…😂 I hope you enjoy, and I‘ll look forward to hearing what you think. 😊 9mo

An interesting historical mystery with a fun heroine. Bea is the poor relation who manages to solve a murder at a Regency house party. The first of a series, I definitely want to read more. Nothing complicated or demanding, but enjoyable.

I‘m liking this so far. It‘s a combination cozy mystery and Regency romance. Think Jane Austen with a dead body in the library. I‘m loving the heroine.

Overall, a fun Regency cozy. Bea presents herself as a shy spinster, but after a guest is murdered at a house party, she‘s determined to find justice for him and his family. Even if she has to contend with the seemingly pedantic Duke of Kesgrave, who might not be as stuffy as she first assumed.

I‘d read one of Messina‘s romances & adored it for its laugh-out-loud wit & endearing characters. This didn‘t disappoint! There were several points where I cackled madly at my kindle thanks to Beatrice‘s wry observations or her hilarious conversations with a pompous Duke. The mystery itself was treated a bit cavalierly — hard-boiled whodunnit, this is not. Still, Bea‘s interactions with a hilarious collection of characters kept me engrossed! ★★★★☆
