I really enjoyed the book. I don't think Padme gets enough focus in the Prequels and this is the story of her transitioning from Queen to Senator. It also sheds light on her handmaidens, especially Sabe.

One of the least popular aspects of the Phantom Menace in book form! Senatorial debates, political intrigue, and committee alliances. I jest, it was actually a decent story, really fleshed out the relationship between Padme and her handmaidens, added some fun details to the original prequel.

Terrible photo, but great book. I had been eagerly awaiting this and it didn‘t disappoint. It was fascinating to see more detail about Padme, down to her outfits and hair (and their real function) and her weird voice... everything is intentional and it was fascinating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really loved getting to know more about Padmé than the movies gave us!!
This book, while somewhat uneventful, had a gentle tone I actually appreciated. But if you're looking for action and space battles, you might be disappointed- I didn't mind the more personal side of it though
I need to rewatch the prequels again! 🤣😉😊

The last four months have not been great, and I‘ve not been able to read much or, frankly, concentrate on much else as I‘ve been dealing with some significant parental health issues. This book has kept my attention and I hope that it gets me out of this slump. I‘ve missed reading and Litsy. I‘m hoping to be back on here more frequently soon.

I'm very much enjoying the pacing of this book, and the glimpses into the people around Padme and the work that shapes her, but it's these little Star Wars moments that I love the best. R2D2 as over enthusiastic baby sitter...

I loved Johnston‘s Ahsoka, and this is every bit as good!

This is such a fun book for anyone who loves Star Wars and thinks Padme didn't get nearly as much character development as she deserved. Here Padme, and get handmaidens, get their moment to shine. It does a really good job of doing some world building for Naboo. It also has some really fun parallels with Leia, Princess of Alderaan.

This was phenomenal!!! I cried. A lot. The author really captures the feel of Padme's character, and all the insight into the handmaidens is amazing! Also all the politics (which is part of why I love the Prequels)! I wish this book had existed when I was younger. It's YA but reads with more weight than that. If you're a Star Wars fan but don't like YA, please still pick this one up! So much Prequel love!!

This is giving me all the feels. I love the Prequel Trilogy and have always been fascinated by the handmaidens. I'm so happy this book exists!

While I enjoyed getting to know more about Padme', this was a bit of a dull read. I think the most emotional part for me was the ending, mostly because I already knew Padme's fate. Still, I enjoyed it enough to get through it fairly quickly.

E.K. Johnston‘s QUEEN‘S SHADOW is set between Star Wars episodes 1 and 2 and is about Padmé's transition from queen of Naboo to senator. Johnston gets inside Padmé‘s head so incredibly well, telling a fascinating story of a group of girls who dared to change an entire galaxy. I can‘t say enough about how incredible of a read it is. You can pre-order QUEEN‘S SHADOW now, as it will be on shelves in March.
