This isn‘t a “how can I get these two together and what obstacles can I throw in their way” novel. It‘s an exploration of what it means to love, how we as humans live with and without it, and the connection of all this to ritual and society. I love Shields‘ writing and this novel made me think.

Reading in my husband‘s office at church as I wait for the final service. He has to do all three; I just sing at the last one. Shields is brilliant, as always.

Oh, I'm enjoying this hugely :)
I've read two others and, truthfully, almost left this on the shelf as it's about lurve!
So glad I didn't as the writing has a flow to it that echoes the intertwining character chapters. And the female protagonist is speaking to me! The theme if love, romantic love, isn't slushy or chick -lit style but feels like something to yearn after and strive or hope for :)

Other than library book sales and an occasional bookoutlet spree, I don't really buy books often. I'm more of a book borrower so that may be one reason I don't reread often. That and the fact that every time I go on Litsy I'm filled with such book envy I just keep adding to my TBR. But these are some of the books I've reread. (And reread and reread in some cases).
