In a powerful and daring debut novel, Sonya Mukherjee shares the story of sisters Clara and Hailey, conjoined twins who are learning what it means to be truly extraordinary. Seventeen-year-old conjoined twins, Clara and Hailey, have lived in the same small town their entire lives no one stares at them anymore. But there are cracks in their quiet existence and they re slowing becoming more apparent. Clara and Hailey are at a crossroads. Clara wants to stay close to home, avoid all attention, and study the night sky. Hailey wants to travel the world, learn from great artists, and dance with mysterious boys. As high school graduation approaches, each twin must untangle her dreams from her sister s, and figure out what it means to be her own person. Told in alternating perspectives, this unconventional coming-of-age tale shows how dreams can break your heart but the love between sisters can mend it."

I mean, maybe don‘t say a character has been a TRAMP SINCE KINDERGARTEN. Writing was... not so great. Very bland, very flat.

Emilymdxn Such a pity, the cover is gorgeous and the book sounds not gorgeous enough to deserve it 😡 6y

Gripping story of conjoined twins Claire and Hailey. At 17, it's all too clear that their lives' dreams are not the same. Surgical separation is an option but....

I chose Gemini because of the cover, but with the reservation that it wasn't an #ownvoices book. I thought she did a decent job, though it's hard for me to judge that. The book was let down by the cliche, teen-movie ending.

And that's #litsyrc24 in my #litsyreadingchallenge! On Kindred, for #litsyrc22, takes place over 150 years ago.

Mehso-so

This novel was an interesting look into the lives of conjoined twins. The chapters alternated between the twins' perspectives and their voices were very similar. I sometimes had difficulty telling them apart. The secondary characters weren't very well developed and a lot of the narrative focused on the fact that they were conjoined instead of just having it be one aspect of who they are. Still, I got involved in the plot and enjoyed the book.

I can't wait for my 13 year old to read this. It was a beautiful story of empathy, compassion, fear, and bravery.

Gemini is about conjoined twins in senior year of high school. If you've ever read Fangirl, Hailey is the Wren (the bold one who wants to get out & have new experiences) while Clara is the Cath (the reserved one who wants to stay in her comfort zone) — a dynamic made much more complicated since they are literally attached at the hip. While they must deal with navigating boys & college, their own unique relationship is what really drives the story.

MrBook @cookiejanester What? That I'm a fish out of water? The scales don't always tip in one's favor. You've really got to hook on to destiny and not let go. I don't know, my brain feels fried right now. You understand, don't you @BookNerdBritt ? 8y

HiddenGemBooks @MrBook haha 😂 8y
BookNerdBritt @MrBook That went swimmingly! 8y
BookNerdBritt @cookiejanester @Yournewfriendsams I wonder if the first definition arose from the second. Like, maybe she had to yell, "Fresh fish! Get your fish here!" and then over time the word evolved to include women yelling about non fish-related things. 8y

The way we view ourselves has to come from the inside, not from the reflection that we see in other people's eyes. But sometimes it seems to me that reflections are all we have. Without them, we could never see ourselves at all.

Really interesting book about conjoined twins. A lot of the plots were underdeveloped but the relationship between the twins made for a great read!
