"Deeply atmospheric, breathlessly suspenseful, with a ticking clock like no other--a terrific thriller."--Lee Child Haunted by dark secrets and an unsolved mystery, a young doctor returns to his isolated Adirondacks hometown in a tense, gripping novel in the vein of Michael Koryta and Harlan Coben. Burying the past only gives it strength--and fury. Nate McHale has assembled the kind of life most people would envy. After a tumultuous youth marked by his inexplicable survival of a devastating tragedy, Nate left his Adirondack hometown of Greystone Lake and never looked back. Fourteen years later, he's become a respected New York City surgeon, devoted husband, and loving father. Then a body is discovered deep in the forests that surround Greystone Lake. This disturbing news finally draws Nate home. While navigating a tense landscape of secrets and suspicion, resentments and guilt, Nate reconnects with estranged friends and old enemies, and encounters strangers who seem to know impossible things about him. Haunting every moment is the Lake's sinister history and the memory of wild, beautiful Lucy Bennett, with whom Nate is forever linked by shattering loss and youthful passion. As a massive hurricane bears down on the Northeast, the air becomes electric, the clouds grow dark, and escalating acts of violence echo events from Nate's own past. Without a doubt, a reckoning is coming--one that will lay bare the lies that lifelong friends have told themselves and unleash a vengeance that may consume them all. Praise for The Storm King "Brendan Duffy's second book mingles horror, historical fiction, supernatural suspense and old-fashioned murder mystery, the rare phantasmagoria whose pieces click into a satisfying resolution. . . . This is a gutsy, intricate, evocative piece of mischief, much closer than anyone usually gets to that particular spell cast by Stephen King."--USA Today "Duffy follows his debut, House of Echoes, with a stunning literary thriller, which combines accomplished wordsmithing with startling twists."--Publishers Weekly (starred review) "An elaborately layered, creepily atmospheric story that blends haunting legends and the psychological terror of a murderer on the hunt. A winning thriller sure to draw readers of Jennifer McMahon, Ruth Ware, and Michael Koryta."--Booklist (starred review)

Not book related.

I spent a lovely, exhausting the day at Storm King Art Center yesterday.

Graywacke Nice! 2y
SRWCF Cool! 2y
Billypar That place is the best - it's huge and there's so many interesting works. 2y
Liz_M @Billypar Huge is right! My feet still hurt. 😆 Have you every been to Grounds for Sculpture in NJ? That is another AMAZING outdoor sculpture garden. (edited) 2y
Billypar I have and you are correct - also amazing! I've been to both places multiple times. I think it would also be difficult to imagine two sculpture gardens that are more different from each other. But both are a lot of fun in their own way. 2y

The story line of this book is so creatively written. It‘s not a typical thriller. Many times I had to check how much time I had left because I thought it was wrapping up, but the story kept evolving. The author does an outstanding job describing everything. 5🌟

So...ummmmm.... since I travel all over Georgia for work, I get to check out books from other GA libraries. I really did not need 3 more books 😯 #blessmyownheart

kyraleseberg I'm in the PINES system also! It makes holds so simple when my local library doesn't have what I need. 6y
Kappadeemom Cool!! What part of GA? I love the Centerville Library when I go to Macon. They have a good selection ;) 6y
MiyakoBunny I love the Pines system it‘s honestly the best library system I‘ve encountered in all our moves 😃😃😃 6y
kyraleseberg @Kappadeemom I'm just outside of Augusta in a little town called Appling! I live on the same road as Euchee Creek Library and close to two more built in the last few years. I can't say enough good things about the programs they offer and the book selections are pretty great, too! 6y
Kappadeemom @kyraleseberg Augusta used to be part of my work territory :) I live in Valdosta 6y

I thoroughly enjoyed this one- much more than the author‘s first book! Though I did see the #PlotTwist coming, there were still nuances that surprised me and definitely left me with some unforgettable scenes! It‘s a story of friendship, betrayal and murder. #AreFriendsElectric? They most certainly are here with so much thunder and lightning in the background! #2018BookBinge @jesshowbooks #NUYear @TrishB @Cinfhen

Nate McHale returns to his hometown of Greystone Lake for the funeral of a girl who disappeared 14 years earlier. Nate soon learns that the actions of his violent and turbulent youth have consequences years later that he must now face. There's a lot going on in this book, but it all adds to the story. The Storm King is very well written, although it took a little time for me to get into this novel, once I did, I was hooked. Rated 4/5. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

KrystleTheBookSlayer Warning: there is a little bit of animal and sexual violence, but it's not very much and not very graphic. 6y
