Falling Out of Time
Falling Out of Time | David Grossman
4 posts | 3 read | 4 to read
In this compassionate and genre-defying drama the internationally acclaimed author of To the End of the Land weaves an incandescent tale of parental grief. A powerful distillation of the experience of understanding and acceptance, and of arts triumph over death, Falling Out of Time is part play, part prose, and pure poetry. As Grossmans characters ultimately find solace and hope through their communal acts of mourning, readers will find comfort in their clamorous vitality, and in the gift of storytellinga realm where loss is not an absence, but a life force in its own right.

1) The tagged book is my fave most recently read hybrid book. It was the last book of '22. A profound & moving blend of prose, poetry & drama that explores grief & loss.
2) An epistolary saga as a road novel through America.
3) Motivational Romance, lol

The_Penniless_Author You pretty much stole my 3rd response 😂 1y
RaeLovesToRead I love the idea of 2, and your 3 sounds suitably horrific! Although, this one kinda fits the bill.. 1y
vivastory @The_Penniless_Author At first I wrote Self-Help Romance & I was like, wait that's weird 😂 1y

vivastory @RaeLovesToRead I have yet to see a single episode of Sex & The City 1y
The_Penniless_Author That's what I wrote 🤣🤣🤣 1y
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory Neither have I, although someone made me sit through the movie once. Bloody hell, it was awful! 1y
RaeLovesToRead (Although I will say, despite being toxic, heteronormative crap, I still gave the tagged book 3 stars because my teenage self learned the hard way!) 1y
vivastory @RaeLovesToRead I just googled to see how many movies there were & was surprised that it's 2. For some reason it seemed like more. 1y
BarbaraBB The Grossman was so good! A favorite author of mine 1y
vivastory @BarbaraBB This is the only one that I have read by him. Do you have other recommendations? 1y
BarbaraBB It‘s a chunkster but this one is so incredibly good 1y
BarbaraBB The one you read it kind of a sequel to this one ⬆️ (edited) 1y

#BookReport
This week I read...wait for it...1 Penguin Little Black Classic & the tagged book. (cue sad trombone music) I have a lot of stuff going on, so I have been watching too many random YouTube videos (there's some weird shit on there y'all) & catching up on my favorite bookish podcasts which sort of counts. I guess?!? Oh well, here's to a good '23. 🍷(BTW the tagged book was phenomenal.)
@cinfhen

Bookzombie I think we sometimes need a little break from reading even though it‘s something we love. 🙂 I do this myself. Fall into shows and YouTube videos. Happy New Year!! 1y
vivastory @Bookzombie Happy New Year! I don't watch much tv, so in general I don't feel bad & I actually read more books this yr than I have in a few yrs but I do get frustrated with myself when I have all of this extra time off around the holidays & I veg out watching hrs of tv. But I do agree with you. 1y
Leftcoastzen What is scary is I watched this on Hulu and dare I say for once the TV series was better than the book! 1y

vivastory @Leftcoastzen The ads for that keep coming up...on the booktube videos I've been watching lol 1y
Bookzombie @vivastory I understand totally. I don‘t feel like I used time my off in December to read as much as I wanted and feel frustrated also. 1y
Cinfhen Podcasts definitely counts!! And as long as you were enjoying and relaxing it‘s all good!! Happy New Year 🎊 1y
vivastory @Cinfhen Happy New Year 🥳 1y

ReadingEnvy Ooh have you read the book that comes before 7y
vivastory @ReadingEnvy Is it The Anthologist? If so, I loved it. It's one of my favorite novels about poetry 7y

ReadingEnvy @vivastory yes oh goodness. I made an index for that book so I could see all the poets mentioned,.. and then sought most of them out. Because who reads rhyming poetry? 7y
vivastory @ReadingEnvy Edward Hirsch used Baker's description of enjambment for 7y
vivastory @ReadingEnvy Did you wind up discovering any new favorite poets? 7y
ReadingEnvy @vivastory Sara Teasdale is the one that I remember most, specifically never hearing of her before the book, reading everything after, finding favorites that were excluded from her "collected" poems 7y
vivastory @ReadingEnvy I haven't read her in a few years, but I recall liking what I read. 7y
xdisplaynamex I just finished Falling Out of Time. Have you read it yet? What did you think? 7y
