Taking a break from sorting through the AMAZING amount of junk that‘s accumulated in my kitchen cupboards over 30yrs & starting the 2nd book in Gibson‘s Jackpot series. I‘m really hoping it‘s as good as the 1st book, The Peripheral. And I just saw there‘s a 3rd one coming out next year🥳 Definitely gonna try and get a signed copy of that too✍🏼I really need to get the other books in the Neuromancer series too. On my (huge)wishlist📃

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Hi Liz, just reaching out to check that your # AussieSecretSanta match email came through… let me know?! (edited) 1y
Lizpixie @thegirlwiththelibrarybag hi Sharni! Yep, came through ok, I‘m already planning her gifts. Sorry I didn‘t reply, it‘s been chaos here🤷🏻‍♀️ 1y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Lizpixie, excellent excellent 😊 no worries - it‘s a chaotic time of year - hope all is well? 1y
Lizpixie @thegirlwiththelibrarybag hi Sharni, I‘ll be shipping my parcel by Express Post Monday, it may have to be in two parts as I‘m still waiting on one integral item that‘s made for my giftee. I‘m hoping it‘ll arrive tomorrow or Monday morning🤞🤞🤞🤞Aus Post sucks! 1y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Lizpixie thanks for the update Liz 😊 Monday is fine! 🤞🏼 that the other item arrives in time. (edited) 1y

I loved The Peripheral for its imaginative ideas and this sequel explores them further. It feels very much like a “middle book“ but is a pick all the same.

This is my first book finished for the #AwesomeAugust readathon and my #2020 selection for the #192025 challenge. It's also my #DoubleSpin book for the month.

Sigh. Gibson is an important author for me & Pattern Recognition holds a special place in my heart & my life, but is anyone else finding his Jackpot novels... really boring?

Part of the problem is that Agency makes zero sense if you haven't read The Peripheral, which I have, but it's been a minute, & I can't muster the energy to remind myself who all these people are & why I should care.

Meh. Hopefully the rumored Amazon series will be good!

This book is the sequel to Peripherals and continues to explore the so-called stub worlds influenced by kleptocratic hobbyists. The plot moves at breakneck speed toward a resolution that I did not see coming. After pondering it for a while, I have decided that it was really the perfect ending. Memorable new characters join familiar favorites to save the timeline from impending doom, and it was quite a ride. Bring on the next book!

Near-future science fiction that leaves you feeling good. Just what I needed. Alternating storylines: a 2017 “before all the pandemics” with a woman elected US president and a No Brexit vote; plus a continuation of something like our own timeline, post-apocalypse. Eunice, the AI individual at the centre of this story, is such a great character. Money is not an obstacle & there‘s a budget for illegalities. #Audiobook read by Lorelei King.

Yesterday I devoured a 10-hour audiobook in one day (review coming shortly), plus I got a lot of knitting done. On the downside, I woke up with swollen fingers and pain in my wrists and elbows: which means I must take a break from knitting today. 😱#knittersofLitsy

silentrequiem That's gorgeous! What's the pattern? And rest those hands! 4y
marleed Oh take care. I worry about everyone who can‘t get to their doctors for non Covid-19 stuff. 4y
Lindy @silentrequiem Thanks! I‘m making my own pattern for a cotton top. The stitch pattern along the hem is called Rising Suns in 4y

Lindy @marleed 😘Like you, I‘m concerned for those who need medical attention right now. Fortunately, in my case, I just need to take a rest from the activity that is making me hurt. 4y
silentrequiem @Lindy That's amazing! 4y
PurpleTulipGirl Beautiful! And that Japanese stitch book is a wonderful resource. 4y
Lindy @PurpleTulipGirl Yes, it‘s great. I like that it‘s got instructions for knitting flat, in the round & etc. I usually knit top down, but this rising sun stitch pattern doesn‘t make a zigzag edge in that direction, so I am going bottom up. 4y
xicanti Gorgeous! It looks like a fun pattern to work on, too. Hopefully your wrists and hands will let you get back to it soon. 4y
Lindy @xicanti Thanks! Yes, the pattern is simple and fun to watch as it takes shape. 4y

After several days of not having much interest in reading, I‘ve found a book that has totally captured my attention. Bring on the alternate timelines, William Gibson! #audiowalk on a chilly day through very quiet streets...

Hooked_on_books Pretty picture 4y
Lindy @Hooked_on_books Thanks. Other Littens are posting flowers and green shoots. That‘s still a long way off here, even though the calendar says spring. 😏 4y

Bk4 of my #JanuaryBookHaul is a signed copy of the new book by the author of Neuromancer. I read that for the first time last year and loved it. Very clever and very enthralling, hopefully this will be too. Though I‘ve just found out it‘s the sequel to another book of his, The Peripheral which I don‘t have & now need to get a copy of. It‘s a time travel, SciFi, alternate history novel which sounds very intriguing.

This is what you read Gibson for: cyberpunk, post-singularity, augmented humans, AI, up-to-the-minute world events, seasoned with an eye for characters who are at least two standard deviations away from average. As expected, he pays attention to the role that information, branding, media, form and function play with our perceptions of the world. This continues from his novel The Peripheral, which was probably a stronger story.

Got to see William Gibson tonight at Third Place Books to celebrate the release of Agency, sequel to The Peripheral. The premise sounds interesting and I‘ll grab the first off of the husband‘s shelf sometime soon!

A wonderful interview with William Gibson on his world building: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/jan/11/william-gibson-i-was-losing-a-sens...

Nute That is my favorite type of author interview! One where the author gives insight to a thought process or planning stages of a novel. Isn‘t it interesting to realize that an author who writes futuristic novels may have his writing impacted by current events? Writers don‘t just make it all up. They pull from real life so that readers can relate. I can‘t imagine the amount of attention to detail that is required for dynamic world-building done well! 4y

Congratulations to @Chrissyreadit on your Litsy milestones! And thank you for your #ThankYouGiveaway My favourite read of 2019 has to be Gideon the Ninth, it was a fabulous mix of SciFi, fantasy & supernatural with lesbian necromancers thrown in. What more needs to be said? My Most Anticipated read of 2020 is Agency by William Gibson. I read his Neuromancer for the 1st time this year and loved it so much, it was smart, riveting & fast paced.
