This was clearly a middle grade fiction/magical realism, but it was so good! It's about 2 sisters trying to overcome the family curse that makes it so that twin sisters cannot be around each other after a specific birthday. Lots of magic thrown in, as well as the fun of a late summer traveling carnival and lots of sweet animals. Really about the transformative power of relationships.

From the gorgeous cover to the inventive storyline, this MG novel was a solid pick in my book. The story inspires courage against the odds, bravery, hope, & love. The characters were easy to fall in step with, but I did feel the author could have developed the story a bit more & gone on to explain a few things a bit better. Perhaps that‘s just coming from my adult mindset where most likely a younger reader would be quite content w/things as is.
