Our Little Secret | Roz Nay
55 posts | 43 read | 59 to read
For fans of In a Dark, Dark Wood and All the Missing Girls comes Our Little Secret, a compulsive and thrilling debut about a missing woman, a tangled love triangle, the secrets we keep and the secrets we share. The detective wants to know what happened to Saskia, as if I could just skip to the ending and all would be well. But stories begin at the beginning and some secrets have to be earned. Angela is being held in a police interrogation room. Her exs wife has gone missing and Detective Novak is sure Angela knows something, despite her claim that shes not involved. At Novaks prodding, Angela tells a story going back ten years, explaining how she met and fell in love with her high school friend HP. But as her past unfolds, she reveals a disconcerting love triangle and a dark, tangled web of betrayals. Is Angela a scorned ex-lover with criminal intent? Or a pawn in someone elses revenge scheme? Who is she protecting? And why? Twisty and suspenseful, Our Little Secret is an intense cat-and-mouse game and a riveting thriller about the lies we tell othersand ourselves.

This had quick pacing and a plot that hooked me from the beginning. I wasn‘t really attached to any of the characters however, and the ending was insanely predictable. I still enjoyed this one I just don‘t think I‘d read it again.

I couldn‘t have put this book down even if I wanted to. A woman held for questioning in a police station recounts the story of her relationship with her high school sweetheart whose wife is missing. This is a debut, but it is only a teensy wobbly at the end. Loved it.

Not a bad little psychological thriller. It kept me guessing up to the end. Characters were okay. I probably would read her next book. Let‘s just say that from this point on, she can only improve.

This book was weird and I'm still not sure if I liked it or not...but I will say it's a "pick" because of the twists and turns. The fact that the main character was a bit of a nut job also helped ? It was a pretty quick read, and the final twist got me, even though I figured out the "bad guy" early on. #OurLittleSecret @StMartinsPress

I am so fed up with lazy misogyny, especially from women. I know this will be a movie because Hollywood loves nothing more than evil heroines. I wish this author-who is a skillful writer-had turned their gifts to something more interesting and original.

I got the same feels as I did with One Day, except this epic love story is wrapped into a psychological thriller. If you like your thrillers to bend into the mystery genre, follow that kind of plot structure, this isn't that. Story: entertaining. Prose: high caliber. Motivations: believable.

SledgeReader @RaimeyGallant SOS! I‘m the library patron who asks for the blue book! Aaahhhh! I offered to send books to a Litten collecting children‘s books for a Title 1 school. I didn‘t document who it was. Do you have any tips on how to find this person? I remember the graphic was orange. Embarrassed 😩 6y

There are a few quotes I loved out of this. I love how it was written. I liked that it was as if the MC was telling us a secret. I would have rated it a 4 or a 4.5. Until the ending, Some characters seemed out of character. Some things were too far fetched. I don‘t believe that‘s how it happened from the way Angela acted all book. The ending destroyed her character. #shareoursecret Thanks St Martin‘s Press for this ARC!

I'm having a little trouble reading in anything more than short bursts, even audiobooks. But this thriller came last week in the mail and it's managing to hold my mind longer than anything else right now and it's a welcome relief!

I am glad that this book was less than 300 pages. In my opinion the length was perfect with how the story developed. I believe that anything longer would have caused the story to lose what bit of effect it had on me. It is definitely a quick read if you want a suspense that you can just breeze thru. I have to say that when I first started reading this story I could not stand Angela at all. I thought that she talked too much and was self centered.

A solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️ thriller. The story begins in an interrogation room as we rely on our narrator Angela to help us determine what has happened to Saskia Parker, the wife of Angela‘s first love. From here we go on a tangled journey of young love & secrets. The story is compelling & absolutely full of despicable characters. While I enjoyed the book, the “big twist” was a bit anticlimactic for me.

I read the book all in one day so I definitely wanted to know what happened. But the narrator/main character was so incredibly negative and horrible.

everfree7 Yeah, I didn‘t hate it. But it didn‘t make complete sense at the end, and it was so difficult to get over how awful the main character was. 6y

This wasn't quite what I was expecting. The entire story is essentially a monologue by the protagonist, Angela, a woman suspected of involvement in the disappearance of another woman, Saskia. Details trickle out regarding the other characters and how they relate to Angela, but it was hard to get a good grasp on who these people really are. It was interesting enough to keep reading, but ultimately left me unsatisfied.

✨I received an ARC of this book (available 4/24/18) in exchange for an honest review... And that's what's gonna happen.
✨It wasn't necessary bad, but I definitely think it's not "thriller" material like it was portrayed to be.. It was dark, but it was also predictable. Gone Girl, but with a few different twists, but basically not much different... I probably wouldn't of picked this up if I hadn't received an ARC of it..
3/5 ?

Ok, this was a cheat. I had about 50 pages left to the book before the new year flip. This is a good, quick thriller with some scenes that would probably never happen in real life. It is the relationship between two people, but one winds up with another woman. This woman is now missing and the other woman is telling the story to police. A nice fun read.
