The Rosalind Thorne Mysteries inspired by the novels of Jane Austen continue as the audacious Rosalind strives to aid those in need while navigating the halls of high society Rosalind Thorne has slowly but assuredly gained a reputation as a useful woman by helping respectable women out of some less-than-respectable predicaments. Her latest endeavor is a tragedy waiting to happen. Desperate Margaretta Seymore is with child and her husband is receiving poisoned pen letters that imply that her condition is the result of an affair with the notorious actor Fletcher Cavendish. Margaretta asks Rosalind to find out who is behind the scurrilous letters. But before she can make any progress, Cavendish is found dead, stabbed through the heart. Suddenly, Rosalind is plunged into the middle of one of the most sensational murder trials London has ever seen, and her client s husband is the prime suspect. With the help of the charming Bow Street runner Adam Harkness, she must drop the curtain on this fatal drama before any more lives are ruined."

Initially I enjoyed this audiobook. But after a time I became impatient with the convoluted plot as the story dragged on for me. I almost bailed but I was close the the end so I soldiered on.

#bookreport Finished TDCJ, read section in TNOW, on ch.21 APPM. Picked up WR? This morning. Very Little reading these past 5 days because I have been sick. Binged watched the Shetland series based on Ann Cleeves books. Foes that count?! My brain could not process the written word until today.

Cinfhen Sorry you‘re not feeling well - hope whatever it is passes quickly 1y
kspenmoll @Cinfhen Thanks for your healing wishes! My allergies morphed into intense asthma that morphed into bronchitis, etc. Today starting to feel like I am mending. 1y

kspenmoll Some, like Denise Levertov, has been going on for months! Usually I have an easy read on kindle for when I am not home, an audio book to listen too, some body reads are just certain sections- I do take notes, stickies etc. also bailed on one; it was stupid!!! (edited) 2y

A great second book in the series. Miss Rosalind Thorne must assist a friend whose husband has been accused of murder & must navigate the treacherous world of high society.

Good morning from the couch. Have been up most of the night because Girl #1 has been off and on ill all night. 6 am we took an epsom salts soak and now we‘re watching Trollhunters. Now the Christmas Eve Rabbit of Healing has been released from her onerous overnight captivity and she‘s here to heal us all.

A few pages before bedtime to dip my toe in the waters of a new world. I finished Monique and the Mango Rains this afternoon, so I need some light fiction. And there‘s nothing quite so light and delicious as a dynamic duo made up of a slightly tarnished lady of quality and a Bow Street Runner.

Almost a Regency cosy, this is another entertaining book following a lady in reduced circumstances who finds herself embroiled in another murder. The murder plot is a bit involved but I enjoy the characters and the story was fun to read. There is an incipient love triangle but it's very much secondary to the plot, so it's much less annoying than I would usually find it.

3 ⭐️ I love Rosalind Thorne, the main character, but the motive for the murder and the machinations of some of the characters were just too contrived. It didn't help that the book I read before this was also a murder mystery set in Regency London. This one didn't compare favorably. Still, the main characters are superb, and I'll continue to read this series.

Why is it that, as soon as you start one good book, three or four more pop up? I already have two excellent novels plus a fantastic nonfiction underway, but this popped up on my Kindle this morning on release day. Can I hold off? Of course not!

Today's #fridayreads pic for work... The second Rosalind Thorne mystery is as much a treat as book one. Rosalind works as a fixer for society women, and somehow she keeps finding herself in the middle of murder investigations. She's resourceful, witty, and adventurous. These remind me a little of Anne Perry's Pitt mysteries, but lighter. Really, it's exactly the book you think you're getting from the fantastic, fun cover. Loved it!

When you drop your car off for its 40,000 mile check up, thinking it won't take too long, and they say 3 hours. In these cases I'm glad I rarely go anywhere without a book and my iPod.

MyNamesParadise Is that an iPod classic? 😍 7y
