New York Times bestselling author Mary Alice Monroe returns to her beloved Isle of Palms to tell the poignant, charming story of two women, one summer, and one very special beach house. When Cara Rutledge rents out her quaint beach house on Isle of Palms to Heather Fordham for the entire summer, its a win-win by any standard: Caras generating income necessary to keep husband Bretts ecotourism boat business afloat, and anxiety-prone Heather, an young artist whos been given a commission to paint birds on postage stamps, has a quiet space in which to work and tend to her pet canaries uninterrupted. It isnt long, however, before both womens idyllic summers are altered irrevocably: the alluring shorebirdsand the man who rescues thembegin to draw Heather out of the shell shes cultivated toward a world of adventure, and maybe even love; at the same time, Caras life reels with sudden tragedy, and she wishes only to return to the beach house that had once been her port amidst lifes storms. When Heather refuses to budge from her newfound sanctuary, so begins the unlikeliest of rooming situations. While they start out as strangers, as everything around the women falls apart they learn that the only thing they can really rely on is each other. And, like the migrating shorebirds that come to the island for the summer, these two women of different generations must rediscover their unique strengths so by summers end they, too, can take flight in ways they never imagined possible.

Heather has anxiety issues so her dad rents her a beach house. Set in the South Carolina low country and includes facts on sea birds and nesting turtles. Good summer read.

This book was just okay. Thin plot. A woman, Cara, rents out her beach house for the summer to a young very anxious woman, Heather. Then Cara‘s husband dies, and she wants to move back to the beach house. The two become roommates. Heather also falls in love with another and still boring version of Monroe‘s typical Lowcountry man.

This is my first book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I love the beach house setting with a young woman gaining independence, confidence, and romance. The book is balanced with another woman‘s story of loss and friendship. I appreciate how the author tied in education about shore birds. 🌊 #audiowrapping #overdrive

Seems appropriate to be reading this book by a South Carolina author and set in the SC Lowcountry while I‘m in Charleston. 😊

5⭐️ An enchanting beach story of two strong-willed women struggling to overcome emotional hardships while surrounded by good friends and the healing power of nature. Two strong women, a comfortable yellow beach house, daily birdsong, good friends and romantic sunsets dinners, what could be better. Beach House for Rent was a most enjoyable read. This is a great book if you're looking for a light, quick, romance novel. The characters are all the nicest people you'll ever meet set in a location just one step away from paradise. My biggest issue is the treatment of a character's anxiety. We're supposed to believe she has such crippling anxiety that she rarely leaves her house, but within a couple days of meeting some cute guy she's suddenly cured and has no problems going out.

Reecaspieces That is my exact problem with this book!! She came off as whiny too. I did not feel for her as the author expected. I wanted to slap her in places. Spoiled! 7y

I know she's written several New York Times Bestsellers, but Mary Alice Monroe is a recent discovery for me since moving to the Lowcountry. The water and the environment are always a big part of her books. #ocean #sizzlinsummerbooks

Cara, the 50 yr old owner of the Beach House is feeling a little off, she loves her husband but yearns for something more than her quiet life on the Isle. Heather, the young introverted twenty something, comes to the beach house very unsure of herself, she has her three canaries to keep her calm, but this is the first time she has been away from her daddy. Join the women on their journeys of self discovery. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

My family is willing to guest review on my blog so they can get their hands in new books. This one is right up my sister's alley and is headed back in the mail for her to read and review.

🍭🍭🍭🍭What is it about MAM‘s books? They are so calming. It is like coming home. Her settings are so charming and the stories surrounding these settings just keep you coming back for more!
