I honestly have some mixed feelings about this book... It felt like two stories competing for air time. This is a thriller, set in the mid 80s in the Californian desert. The main character (a rugged, cowboy, detective, divorcee) is hot on the trail of a serial killer. There's a lot to follow and unpack here...

I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a mild thriller...

Very well constructed crime novel. It's the mid 80's and a serial killer is stalking the streets of a small southern California town. Det. Ben Wade has returned to his hometown and the violence threatens the place where he grew up and brings secrets from his past back. Excellent writing -- definitely a step above my normal thriller reads.

How far into a book do you get before you decide you just can‘t finish it?
I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway, so was really excited, however I‘m nearly a 100 pages in and just finding it hard to make myself read it.

Really enjoyed this book - two stories running - one about sexual abuse and one about a serial killer - both are well written. Hope it‘s the start of a series as I really liked the characters and I could do with another series.....ha ha 😁

Okay, this book was a good book - it just wasn't the book I thought it was. I *thought* this would be a gritty serial killer story, and on one-hand it is! On the other ... it is actually more an intimate look at one man's life who is involved in this search for the serial killer. I thought the book was a good, strong read, I just felt let down by its description and the story I was given instead.
