Flipping Brilliant: A Penguin's Guide to a Happy Life | Jonathan Chester
5 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
The more you find out about penguins, the more they seem to have in common with another oddly endearing flightless biped. Namely, us. --Flipping Brilliant Think March of the Penguins meets Life's Little Instruction Book by way of National Geographic. Award-winning nature photographer Jonathan Chester captures the essence of the Antarctic's most popular residents to illustrate the similarities between penguins' lives and our own. Patrick Regan's clever narrative offers surprising insights and humorously entertaining life lessons. The appeal of penguins is undeniable and universal. And we can learn a lot from these fat, funny birds. Lessons like: * The meek sleep alone, * It's better to be smart than cute, and * You can be too thin. (After all, the book explains, if the Olsen twins ever get locked in a walk-in cooler for days and are forced to live off their own body fat, they're goners. Penguins? They're good for months.) Flipping Brilliant includes helpful environmental information about the penguin habitat and the effects of global warming, including Web sites that show how you can help.

"There are two kinds of penguins: the white ones coming toward you and the black ones going away from you." I love this little book with its life lessons (all penguin-inspired) and there's also some information about the different species of penguins and the effects of global warming. #penguin #QuotsyJan18

When I #NeedCalm, anything with penguins usually helps. I also turn to my favourite poetry anthology (not in Litsy's database yet) and I sometimes like to read the daily meditations in books like 365 Tao. #SurvivingDecember

RealBooks4ever I love my copy of 365 Tao. Not my original copy because I've gifted it several times! 😄💜 6y

In September, I returned to #LitsyAtoZ to cure a #bookhangover & started reading picture books to de-stess. Flipping Brilliant: ❤️ this sweet little book & should read it daily! The Joy Luck Club: beautiful! The Girl on the Train: not my fave genre & didn't live up to the hype. Alive: liked it; will read the sequels. Current reads: Under Pressure, Breakfast of Champions, Lightfoot. Once these are done, I'll be ready for a fantasy series again.

Yesterday, my doctor told me I need to take leave from work. Of course my plan for stress relief involves lots of reading, but I've also decided I should read all the picture books from my shelves during my time off, because what better way is there to disconnect from the worries of adulthood? Here's a couple I intend to read, along with some cute candleholders for #BookandCandle #SeptemberLibrary17 #BookandCandles #AutumnReads

DuckOfDoom 😍😍😍 If that does not help for stress relief I don't know what can 7y

Terry Pratchett & Tom Robbins never fail to make me smile & laugh, so I'd call them #HappyBooks. Also, anything with penguins! 🐧#MarchIntoReading
