A sweeping novel of suspense, love, courage, and sacrifice during the French Revolution traveling from the terrorizing tribunals of the Reign of Terror, to the blood-soaked alleyways of Paris, and culminating on the battlefields of Napoleon s epic conquests in Egypt, with cameos by such legendary figures as Robespierre and Dumas from the New York Times bestselling author of Sisi, Allison Pataki, and her brother Owen Pataki."

Pickpick

Epic historical novel set in revolutionary France. The authors have crafted a well-written drama with tragedy, revenge, justice, and love.

Mehso-so

I was excited to come across a novel about the French Revolution as I know little about this period in history. Sadly, after reading this story I can‘t say I gained much. There were enough story lines and sub plots that I found myself jotting notes in order to keep it all straight. Ultimately the story was just too outlandish for my taste.

Andrew65 Not exactly French Revolution but I did read and enjoy the Josephine Bonaparte Trilogy by Sandra Gulland which starts with (edited) 7y

Equinm @Andrew65 - thank you!! I will def put in a request at the library. I love when fiction teaches me about history in a way I can remember. My favorite examples are the 1st two books in Ken Follett‘s Century Trilogy (sadly the 3rd book was just the worst). (edited) 7y
Andrew65 @Equinm I did love those Ken Follet books too, especially the first one. 7y

This #Audiobook honestly is one of the most distracting performances that I have listened to! Uneven cadence, pacing and accent ... Plus the plot was overly predictable and none of the characters grew or developed... going to make for an #Awkward #BookClub discussion later this month! @RealLifeReading #AudioColoring

I will be honest, I have mixed feelings about this one. I'm excited for the book & I always love that they do the notes from the author. It's great also that they donate a book as well but the items I'm disappointed in. I don't use notebooks & will never use this one & the cover for the light was cracked. The bookmark was cute. I'll continue for now because I love the book selection so far. #historicalfiction #mypagehabit #pagehabit

BarbaraTheBibliophage Ask for a new light! And I agree about notebooks. I have a stack that I'll probably regift. 😎 7y
tracy.anne8 @BarbaraTheBibliophage I think I'm going to. That's a good idea for the notebook. The rest of the box was good though. 7y

Mehso-so

A perfectly fine historical fiction book that takes place during the French Revolution. Too many battle scenes for my taste, but there's a good story here, one that picks up at around the 40% mark. I voluntarily reviewed an eARC copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

The bf brought me books!

(And this post isn't just an underlined passage!)

Where the Light Falls is about Napoleonic France, an era I'm eager to learn more about, (brought up in several books I'm reading now) & is co-written by Allison Pataki, who wrote The Accidental Empress about Sisi of Austria-Hungary, which I read earlier this year & found fascinating.

I have no clue what The Necklace is about but I trust the bf's book picking skills!

rubyslippersreads They both look fascinating. 😍 7y
