The Track of Sand
The Track of Sand | Andrea Camilleri
9 posts | 7 read | 4 to read
The Track of Sand is Andrea Camilleri's twelfth outing in the wryly humorous Inspector Montalbano series. Inspector Montalbano rises one morning to find the carcass of a horse on the beach in front of his seaside home. But no sooner do his men arrive, than the body has mysteriously vanished, leaving only a track in the sand. Before long Rachele, a beguiling equestrian champion, turns up at police headquarters to report her horse missing. The horse had been stabled at the grounds of a certain Saverio Lo Duca, one of the richest men in Sicily. Lo Duca has lost one of his own horses too. Montalbano, his curiosity piqued, investigates, but before long things take a more disturbing turn . . . But who has Montalbano upset within this strange, unfamiliar world of horse-racing? And what has the Mafia to do with it all? The Track of Sand is followed by the thirteenth novel in the series, The Potter's Field. 'A remarkable series. The Track of Sand is as funny and intriguing as the best of its predecessors' Independent

Spending some time with an old friend of a series. I‘ve been filing these out slowly when I need a quick read with some laughs.

4.5⭐
Book 12 of Inspector Montalbano series. Salvo looks out from the terrace and sees a dead horse on the shore. He investigates, calls his backup, goes in the house to wait, and when they look out a bit later the dead horse is gone. Horse racing, beautiful women, and of course food all play a part in this delightful series.

TrishB @Cinfhen me neither! 6y
Andrew65 @Cinfhen @TrishB They are translated from Italian (a great job is done with the translation) and are set in Sicily, great humour in them and quite a quirky main character. Quite quick and entertaining reads. There is also a tv series. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05c0br8 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RW-OuoLOvs4 6y
Melissa_J I thought for sure you‘d pick the Railway Detective series! 6y
Andrew65 @Melissa_J Why didn‘t I think of that! 😳Only excuse is I‘d been to London for a Conference yesterday getting up at silly o‘clock to get there, had a bit of a bad day all round and was tired! 6y

Finished this now, yet another good read from Andrea Camilleri. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing how he sets off a good storyline when Montalbano finds a dead horse outside his window in the morning. I did enjoy the plot in this one and the interaction between the characters, as usual made me loud out loud at key points, I look forward to continuing the series. Still the odd surprise along the way.

The Track of Sand | Andrea Camilleri

Starting Book 12 of the Inspector Montalbano Series. I do love these books which are light entertaining reads based in Sicily. Andrea Camilleri has produced a good group of central characters and Inspector Montalbano, who to say the least, is very quirky. A good break from some of the more heavy reads. They have also been translated well, unlike some books.
