The Complete Claudine
The Complete Claudine: Claudine at School; Claudine in Paris; Claudine Married; Claudine and Annie | Colette, Antonia White
5 posts | 3 read | 56 to read
Colette, prodded by her first husband, Willy, began her writing career with Claudine at School, which catapulted the young author into instant, sensational success. Among the most autobiographical of Colette's works, these four novels are dominated by the child-woman Claudine, whose strength, humor, and zest for living make her seem almost a symbol for the life force. Janet Flanner described these books as "amazing writing on the almost girlish search for the absolute of happiness in physical love . . . recorded by a literary brain always wide awake on the pillow."

Saw this last night - a beautiful film. I‘ve never read Colette (for shame!), but that will soon be remedied! Any suggestions where I should start?

batsy I love the tagged collected edition and want to read Cheri :) 6y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled @batsy I think I‘ll probably start with Claudine! 6y
LeslieO I also liked the bio by Judith Thurman 6y

I‘m seeing it even though I have mixed feelings about it. Colette= 🇫🇷 . Anna Karenina= 🇷🇺.

@Bertha_Mason has reminded me about Colette! Claudine is definitely #NoOnesLittleGirl. Not sure how to describe these books... Let's just say they're a charming mix of angst, romance, lust, and existentialism.

Cathythoughts Sounds very interesting indeed. ❤️ 6y

batsy @Tanisha_A It's great, isn't it! I love the idea of hats but it's for other people. If I wore one I'd probably find myself tangled up in the branches of a tree or something 🤣 6y
batsy @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled @saresmoore She's very interesting as a writer and her own life reads like a very gripping novel! 6y
batsy @saresmoore So happy to hear that, everyone's just been sharing some wonderful books this month 💜 6y

Pickpick

It's #Recommendsday! "Finished The Queen of the Night? Want more daring 19th century French women (who doesn't)? Here‘s a 4-books-in-1 #Recommendsday pick for you! I grew up watching Gigi not realizing it‘s based on a book written by Colette. While the Claudine books are less lighthearted than Gigi, they‘re so wonderfully dramatic and scandalous! And Claudine has an irreverent, witty voice I find irresistible in narrators." - @szainabwilliams

Reviewsbylola I've always wanted to read Colette but haven't yet! 7y
Morphidae This app makes it very difficult to learn. What do the various icons do? How do you send a message to someone privately? How do you set up your home page? How do you search through a hashtag sort? For instance, I want to search through the #hpchapteraday for "challenge". At the very least, there needs to be a place to ask these questions. There isn't even a #helplitsy or #litsyhelp. (edited) 7y
youngreadrshelf How can I contact someone at litsy with a suggestion for the app? 7y
8leagueboot Yes, heap on the Colette love! She was such a fascinating woman. 7y
