The world is plunged into chaos, and it's a fight for survival that most people will lose. As a city collapses, one man fights to get home to his wife and children, but the cost might be too great. A mother protects her children from the zombies invading their neighborhood, and enlists the help of a young man who's desperately searching for his mother. Before the end, a new family will emerge, stronger and willing to die for one another. As the secrets of the apocalypse are exposed, this family will find themselves thrust into a fight for all humanity. The apocalypse is ruthless, violent, and here whether they're ready for it or not.

I love a good zombie story. This wasn't that. It's short, so the author spends no time on buildup. Just boom! Hey there's people eating each other. I feel like if you're going to go for a novella, you maybe should limit the scope and add more details. At least enough so we care whether or not a character gets eaten. Nothing new added to zombie genre here. Right away, Wise gives away that the dad David has testicular cancer, so his survival statistics got skewed in my mind immediately. Then there's the first outbreak scene David watches on the news. Felt like complete gratuitous shock-horror. I have no vivid recollection of the resolution. I remember who lived and who died, but how the plot played out is a guessing game for me.
