Community: Salad Recipes from Arthur Street Kitchen | Hetty McKinnon
7 posts | 1 read | 3 to read
Community is all about sharing good food, giving you endless ideas on delicious salads to serve up for your family, friends and neighbours. These simple, sustainable and healthy recipes feature fresh, seasonal produce and inject colour, life and flair into that most modest of everyday meals: the salad. Rather than being simply sides, Community's salads are meals in their own right, giving vegetables, legumes, herbs and nuts their moment to shine. The recipes in Community are inspired by author Hetty McKinnon's community kitchen, Arthur Street Kitchen, where Hetty single-handedly makes and delivers homemade salads to residents in Surry Hills, Sydney, on Thursday and Friday every week. All by bike! Hetty's salads use only the freshest produce, sourced locally wherever possible. Inspired first and foremost by the seasons, Hetty also takes cues from what she sees, smells and experiences from the world around her. At the heart of every dish is a core vegetable, around which a thoughtful culinary story is built, resulting in honest, inventive and hearty salads that deliver big, punchy flavours.

My biggest coping skill is journaling
Other than music which I use and well as yoga

Here‘s a daily prompt for January and an interesting article https://vanillapapers.net/2020/08/25/journaling-techniques/

I collage journal and free write.

I'm truly sorry for my absence this week. It's been a very stressful week with a lot to deal with. So it's quite apt that I had planned this activity to help us get through the stresses of the holidays. 😅

Let loose and share all your coping mechanisms for keeping stress at bay. 🩵❄️🩵

@TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit @jenniferw88

Dilara So sorry the week was stressful for you! I hope things are better now 😁
I can't say I have original tips for coping: breathing, letting go of unrealistic goals, delegating if possible...
4mo
kspenmoll I am so sorry about your stressful week. I hope this coming week will be a better one. My coping methods: walking, especially walking in nature - I notice all the trees, bushes, plants, they have a special beauty in winter. I have a meditation I do that is all about letting go of yuck energy in your body and breathing. I talk to friends- I need to be heard & that can ease my mind too. It‘s the way I process. I read to escape into another world. 4mo
IndoorDame I‘m sorry you were under so much stress! Let us know if you need anything ♥️ When I‘m stressed I my go tos are candlelit bath with essential oils and Epsom salts, chai in my grandma‘s teapot, CBD chocolate if it‘s legal where you live - regular chocolate if it‘s not, music, and breath work 4mo

AnnCrystal Warning ⚠️ THIS RECIPE IS NOT TO DRINK 🚫, & YOU MUST KEEP WATCH. This is never to be left unsupervised!

When my household is stressed, I usually place a pot of water at a slow simmer with uncrushed Allspice. While not 💯, the aromatherapy of the smell seems to inspire smiles 😊.
(edited) 4mo
AnnCrystal P.S. From my understanding, Allspice should be consumed lightly and only on occasion. Allspice can do more harm than good if one does not understand this. Again, the above recipe is not for drinking. 🚫⚠️. & Keep away from children and pets ⚠️🚫. (edited) 4mo
AllDebooks @Dilara @kspenmoll@IndoorDame @ AnnCrystal Thank you for your kind words and advice. Some great coping strategies there x 4mo

I'm due to read 60 pages of Infinite Jest today for the buddy read, so .... I made this orange and cardamon cake. It's from Hetty McKinnon's new book 'Neighbourhood' and is delicious! 😜

DeborahSmall @LeahBergen I saw cardamom and my mouth watered. Looks yummy and putting me in the mood to do some baking 7y
Abailliekaras @Simona @LeahBergen @Marchpane @Joanne1 @DeborahSmall thanks! Nothing like creative procrastination 😉 7y
Lindy That cake sounds so good! Enjoy. 7y
monkeygirlsmama I don't even know what cardamom is. I've heard of it before, and my baking step-father would probably be ashamed that I have no idea what it is or what it tastes like. 😋 (edited) 7y
