This has been on my TBR for some time. I resisted because I need to start another series like I need a hole in my head. Oh well, what‘s one more series, right?

At the turn of the century, Asher is a professor and former spy forced by a vampire to find out who is murdering vampires in London. No surprise, but I enjoy the historical setting. Asher is a worthy main character and I love his wife, Lydia. She is a medical doctor and scientist who ⬇️

Bookzombie aides Asher in his investigation. The vampires are more traditional, no sparkles or sexiness. I like sexy vampires but sometimes you want vampires that are going to rip throats out. Even so, by the end, I had a small soft spot for the main vampire, Don Simon Ysidro. 1y
Bookzombie I realize that some sexy vampires do rip throats out. 🍷😆 1y
Reggie I like the sexy, throat ripping out, vampire‘s name- Don Simon Yaisro. Lol great review! 1y
Bookzombie @Reggie Thanks! ☺️ 1y

An unusual #vampire book. Someone‘s killing vampires. They enlist the help of a former spy to find the murderer. The spy‘s wife, a doctor when female doctors weren‘t normal, helps by researching property records and medical journals. Based mostly in London, there‘s a section where the spy and vampire visit the Paris vampires, including a jaunt through the catacombs to see the oldest vampire. Thoroughly entertaining October read!

Historical fantasy and trad vampires are kind of not my thing so I wasn‘t expecting much of this. It was also very slow to start. However, I was unexpectedly surprised that once I got into this I binged it. I absolutely loved Lydia and wish we got to see more of her and her spunky attitude even though this is really her husband‘s story.

Today I have a “stealth” reading buddy. I definitely need the buddy system for this read because it‘s kind of slow paced right now and I‘m not too fond of traditional vampire stories. I am 100% here for Lydia though because she is historical heroine goals so far. I just hope we see a lot more of her.

#BookReport
Cue the sad trombone noise because I didn‘t finish anything this week. It was a little hectic because it was finals week for the Spanish class I‘m taking at the local community college and I had to finish the online workbook chapters I kept putting off.

#WeeklyForecast
Goal this week is the same as last week‘s. Finish my current read and then move on to the next BookSpin backlist title.

I‘m so hype that for the first time since we brought home the dog I had a feline reading buddy! Sure it was oh god why o clock in the morning but I‘ll take it. Not too sure about the tagged though it‘s kind of a historical fantasy with traditional vampires and both tend to be hit or miss with me.

After the excitement of Eurovision I was tempted to do a reread of Space Opera but instead I‘m behaving and hitting my BookSpin stack with the tagged. Rolo is exhausted from the excitement.

In all the excitement over my new reading buddy I almost forgot that today is Happy #BookSpin Day for all who celebrate! Here‘s to hoping I can catch up with my backlog AND these two lol

myellenbee Those who Hunt in the Night sounds interesting. I loved The Once and Future King. Also, How do you get 2 pictures into that format? 2y
HeyT @myellenbee I use an app called Canva you can download it as an app or use it on the web at Canva.com it‘s free with paid add ons (I don‘t use the pay features) 2y
myellenbee @Hey T Thanks , that helps a lot! 2y
HeyT @myellenbee I will say when you‘re starting out the website is a little easier because when I use it on my phone I tend to have fat finger mistakes lol 2y

Just to show the full extent of the awfulness of the Blood Maidens cover (and the one above it). They look like the covers of straight-to-cable movies. Whereas the other three look like well acted BBC productions.

One of the most #underrated #vampire novels, and also takes #ugliestcover as well. One of my favourite #spookyreads, yet one of the most fun. #Fantasy wins almost every time for me. #octphotochallenge #frightfest

Zelma Is that hair or a wig? 😂 8y
