Lady Fortescue Steps Out
Lady Fortescue Steps Out | M. C. Beaton
15 posts | 28 read | 16 to read
One has to work...but one's relatives will be appalled when one turns one's hand to trade. This is precisely what Lady Fortescue decides upon and, together with friend Colonel Sandhurst, transforms her decrepit Bond Street home into The Poor Relation: a posh hotel offering employment to other down-and-out aristocrats, and to guests the pleasure of being waited upon by the nobility. Thus London's newest and most fashionable! hotel is born...much to the dismay of the Duke of Rowcester, Lady Fortescue's nephew, who is convinced his aunt's foray into trade will denigrate the illustrious family name!

Listened to this book today. It was refreshing. It‘s about a couple of rebel seniors (senior citizens) down on their luck who find others in the same situation and do something about it. The narrator was excellent and the book was quirky and fun. Looking up book 2. (Not that I need another series to read, but it was so much fun!!) #BookSpinBingo #11 #BFC21 #SHUTDOWNRound2 #SERIES2021 #WINTERRESPITE

Digital books I read this month part two.
My library has rather a lot of MC Beaton on Libby and they‘re pretty good reading if you‘re struggling to concentrate. Some of them are better than others but they‘re quick and usually have some fairly amusing elements

CarolynM I enjoy MC Beaton's romances too. I've got quite a few from The Book Grocer very cheaply. 4y

A cozy period read with the kind of quirky characters you‘d expect. Nothing earth shattering or profound, just a feel good that is easy listening. Sometimes we just need that in our lives. I will continue on and listen to the next installment.

AlaMich I really like this series and I especially enjoy the audio versions. 5y

While not as giggle-inducing as her School for Manners series, the poor relations are super adorable as a group & I instantly wanted the best for them. I esp. enjoyed Lady Fortescue herself & hope that I'm that fierce & confident when I'm an old lady. Despite caring for the characters, I wasn't super interested in the romance. I'm glad they worked it out, but it was not as high on my list of priorities. I did like Chesney's societal commentary.

At 3hr 55min so far for #24in48 (most of it on audio while watching muted basketball and Australian Open tennis). Hoping to rack up many hours today. 🤞

What a fun book! A Regency setting, a group of quirky characters, and a very unusual romance made for an enjoyable read. Thanks again, @Eyelit I‘m definitely going to read the second of this series soon. Lots of candles burning at our house to set the holiday mood, including in these unusual tea light holders.

Thank you, thank you, @Eyelit for your thoughtful gift. I would never have known it was a series. I‘m anxious to read this! 😘 #kindlitsy

AlaMich These are good! And if you like her Poor Relations series, she has written a number of other series which are very similar. Funny and fluffy reads. 😊 5y

Today I was lucky to stumble across MC Beaton (aka Marion Chesney) doing a signing at #BEA18. She‘s delightful!

This is so fun. Easy little pick me up, and the divine Davina Porter with her oh-so-perfect narrating.

the slight romance in this little book is just a pretense to laugh at the antics of an adorable group of misfits and social underdogs in regency England. Cozy and fun😄 I got the audiobook from downpour.com and the reader is truly good

Sydsavvy She narrates Outlander. She‘s absolutely amazing. 6y
