Another #bookoutlet haul. Black Friday sale. No, the Teenage Mutant Turtles drawing book is not for me, although it‘s über cool. I thought Frankenstein was the actual classic, but it‘s a graphic novel. That‘s ok. Psyched for all of these! $24.04 includes $5 shipping. My minimalist journey has been shot to hell, but my goal next year is to pass on 25 books, at least. I think I unhauled abut 20 this year.

Finished it at the last second! 🙌 I really struggled with this one. The writing is certainly beautiful and Mitchell is really good at switching POV seamlessly. But it was definitely a slow and sad book. I think it‘s just a matter of me not being in the right frame of mind to read a story like this. #freakyfriday

I haven't given myself the luxury of pursuing the shelves of a library in a while because my hold list is long. However, this one sucked me in from the first page. Also it's due on Friday and I'm only 40 pages in...will I make it?!

When I notice our hotel has a library exchange, i rush to hoard books and then speed read before vacation is over.
I found this lovely dark comedy in Tangalle, Sri Lanka. I found it refreshing and I chuckled.

Lots of people think this book is underrated and I have to agree. It took a while to get going but it's dark humour and elegant pathos pulled me in and held me until the very end. I felt more involved in the chapters that centred on Lady, Vee and Delph but the back story involving Lenz and the link to chemical warfare was fascinating. I've only just put it down so I'm still processing but what a story!

In the waning days of 1999, the last of the Alters—three damaged but wisecracking sisters who share an apartment on Manhattan‘s Upper West Side—close the circle of the family curse by taking their own lives.

But first, they must explain the origins of that curse and how it has manifested. Unspooling threads of history, they weave an account back to their great-grandfather, a scientist who became the terrible legacy that defines them.

Fun Friday/birthday post! I'm notoriously bad at keeping track of bookmarks. So I tend to just use one, swiping it from book to book, until I lose it or it becomes too frayed to use. This one (not even sure it's technically a bookmark) came in a PEN/Faulkner mailing after I attended a book panel.

"She had a theory. About 95 percent of all people populating this sad planet are assholes, she believed, regardless of race, religion, or creed."

It started off so strong and unique, but kind of came unraveled at the end. I kept thinking, "Technically, this is a good book." I'd give it a 3.5.

This sounded intriguing.
