They say that opposites attract. But what happens when one of them has been devastated by betrayal and the other is so damaged and jaded that his heart is made of stone? In New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas's Dream Lake, readers well enter the world of Friday Harbor, an enchanting town in the Pacific Northwest where things are not quite as they seem and where true love might just have a ghost of a chance. . . .Alex Nolan is about as bitter and cynical as they come. One of three Nolan brothers who call Friday Harbor home, he's nothing like Sam or Mark. They actually believe in love; they think the risk of pain is worth the chance of happiness. But Alex battles his demons with the help of a whiskey bottle, and he lives in his own private hell. And then, a ghost shows up. Only Alex can see him. Has Alex finally crossed over the threshold to insanity?Zo Hoffman is as gentle and romantic as they come. When she meets the startlingly gorgeous Alex Nolan, all her instincts tell her to run. Even Alex tells her to run. But something in him calls to Zo, and she forces him to take a look at his life with a clear eye and to open his mind to the possibility that love isn't for the foolish. The ghost has been existing in the half-light of this world for decades. He doesn't know who he is, or why he is stuck in the Nolans' Victorian house. All he knows is that he loved a girl once. And Alex and Zo hold the key to unlocking a mystery that keeps him trapped here.Zo and Alex are oil and water, fire and ice, sunshine and shadow. But sometimes it takes only a glimmer of light to chase away the dark, and sometimes love can reach beyond time, space, and reason to take hold of hearts that yearn for it. . . .

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! Hope you have had a lovely weekend. Mine has been great, low-key but still full of delicious food. And voting! I love voting in advance polls, so much less stressful with no crowds.

I'm back up to way too many books on the go again, but started the tagged romance anyways cause I'm feeling like I need a good, easy read.

Lindy Hooray for voting 🗳! I voted at the elections office in my riding because I am away from home during the advance polls and also on Election Day. 3mo
llwheeler @Lindy yay voting! 3mo

One of the little free libraries near my house was vandalized 😞

Contemporary romances are not usually my preferred subgenre of romance but I've liked one of Kleypas' historicals so I'm thinking I'll like this book. I wanted to pick something up from there, and I dropped a book off too, to try and let the people who run that #littlefreelibrary know that their efforts are appreciated.

Laughterhp Oh no! I don‘t understand why people would do that! 😒 4mo
Sace How awful! That makes me sad. 4mo

#chillingphotochallenge #scarathlon #teamslaughter @Clwojick There are some #ghostly going-ons in this book - unusual for Kleypas, but I liked it.

I sat down with the book I had planned to read today and could not focus. I picked it up, read a few pages, and put it back down. After wasting half my day this way I wandered over to my shelves, picked this one up, and read it in one sitting. #satisfaction I wasn't sure how I would feel about the ghost at first but it was like getting two love stories for the price of one. Can you ever really go wrong with Lisa Kleypas? #sweetemotions

Having anticipated this particular story since reading Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor, I wasn't disappointed. Alex and Zoe's story was engaging and a pleasure to read from the word go! Their story was intertwined with an intriguing ghostly love story that involved Zoe's ailing grandmother. My favourite story to date in this series. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 of 5 💋💕

robinb I love her historicals! Got to try the contemporaries! Thanks! 3y
CoverToCoverGirl I avoided reading these books because I so dearly love her historical romances! I was afraid of trying her contemporary novels for fear of how she would transition from historical to contemporary. Loved the Friday Harbor series so far but her historicals are still far better! Enjoy! @robinb (edited) 3y
robinb @CoverToCoverGirl You sound just like me! 😄 I'm always afraid to find that my favorite historical authors can't really make me happy with their contemporaries. And to be honest, historicals are my first ❤. 3y

Having personally taken a similar devastating journey with my beloved mother in law, this part of the story moved me in ways hard to put into words and some tears were involved.. Kleypas' knack for words are reflected in the tender but brutal bleak truth at what the future holds for both Zoe and her grandmother. 😔💙

Lisa is exceptionally talented at expressing our deepest emotions ( fear, love, sorrow, humour, faith...) unerringly through the written word.. beautifully done...
