Doing a group reread of the series! The first book is a little slow but once you hit Prince's Gambit the story flies.

I adored these books! The first (Captive Prince) moved a little slow and was clearly a first book effort. Prince's Gambit and King's Rising were fast paced, great plot, and wonderful love story.

Nothing like the power of a girl who reads. I will always come back to the cornerstone of my childhood. I bought 2 copies today. 1 for me and 1 for my nephew (I also got him The BFG)

Look, I didn't want to be a halfblood. If you are reading this because you think you might be, my advice is: close this book right now. Believe whatever lie your mom or dad told you about your birth and try to lead a normal life. Being a halfblood is dangerous. It's scary. Most of the time, it gets you killed in painful, nasty ways."

It's been a rough patch so I am going back to an old, comforting favorite.

NovelGirl82 Camp Half-Blood is always a good place to go back to! 7y
thealidoyle @NovelGirl82 Camp Halfblood and Hogwarts will forever be home. 7y
NovelGirl82 I completely agree @thealidoyle. They are always my happy places. 7y

So it took a bit to finish but this book is absolutely STELLAR. Another well written, diverse and educational story. I may or may not have started a countdown to its release and have definitely pre-ordered the next book. I can't say enough wonderful thing about this book. I ship Magnus and Alex so hard it hurts. And that would pretty firmly place Magnus in the pan category since Alex is nonbinary (and beautifully written at that).

I felt the need to do another badass Jess Drew mode. This time the mom mode!

so as some of you may have seen, yesterday Frank Cho posted a frankly disgusting grossly over sexualized image of Spiderwoman. My version of fighting back against the sexism is to draw Jess kicking ass and taking names. She is a badass, a mom, and deserves so much more than a sick old man drawing her in a suit so tight her labia stick out.

BookishFeminist 😡 Frank Cho. I love your interpretation though! 7y
readordierachel There's a great article about this on The Mary Sue right now. Frank Cho is gross. Your drawing is rad! 7y
BookishFeminist Ugh I just finished reading the Mary Sue article you're talking about @ReadOrDieRachel—I agree it's a good one. @thealidoyle this also means I just saw that utterly disgusting picture. CAN WE MOVE TO A WOMAN ONLY ISLAND LIKE WONDER WOMAN ALREADY. 7y

thealidoyle @chlobee Thank you so much! 7y
thealidoyle @BookishFeminist I am down for that island. @ReadOrDieRachel thanks! 7y
Oldschool_millenial Joining the conversation rather late: just looked this up for context. *HURRRK!* My dad is a comic book illustrator/collector of at least 40 yrs (not in the area of Cho's pin-ups, THANKFULLY). I run into illustrations in this vein all the time, albeit much tamer (ie. the 50s, and not the erotic stuff), and not in Dad's work thank god! 7y

I am doing Inktober this year and using the 31 witches prompt. Today's prompt was schoolgirl witch. There was only 1 way this could go.

BookishFeminist 😂😂 of course you did. 8y

Red Rising | Pierce Brown

Pickpick

So this series has become my absolutely favorite. Pierce Brown makes even the world building portion of this space dystopia interesting. The characters are multifaceted and grow throughout the series. (I own 3 copies of the first book, 2 print, 1 ebook. That is how much I love it)

Omnis vir lupus!

Tcip I met pierce brown at a convention and he is the nicest person ever. 8y
NovelGirl82 I have heard so many great things about this series! I must get to it soon! 8y
thealidoyle @Tcip I am so jealous! I was hoping he would make it to NYCC but the publisher said he had to finish his new manuscript. Probably going to C2E2 and Book Con just in case lol. 8y

When you go to a wedding and you can't wait to get back to your book at the hotel...

Adventures in thwarting Ragnorok with a child of Frey, a Muslim Valkyrie daughter of Loki, a deaf elf, a fashion designer dwarf and a trans daughter of Loki.

beaniebankbeth Somebody drank the Litsy kool aid! One of my students is reading this right now and I had a great conversation with her about the one character, Loki' s kid, and asking curiously about the pronouns that the character was using. It was so cool seeing a middle schooler comment back to me (discussion was through Google Drive) about how happy she was that Riordan is using such diverse and traditionally marginalized identities for his characters. 8y
thealidoyle I am so grateful for Rick's willingness to accept the change world and build representation in Middle Grade lit. 8y
