Back on my thesis bullshit. Oh, how I wish for one weekend with absolutely nothing to do ...

A bit overzealous with the references to genitalia? This book?? Why'd you think that? Though I have to say I enjoy the footnotes (maybe not these in particular ...) a lot more than I expected to. Gives the whole thing this weird and somewhat parodistic academic vibe. Right up my alley.

Working on a translation for my thesis, although I'm absolutely not feeling like it today. Translations from the 1960s are just exhausting.

Welcome to Night Vale | Joseph Fink, Jeffrey Cranor

I'm (sadly) not very good with audiobooks/ podcasts, because I tend to zone out completely after some time, but I manage to listen to an episode of Welcome to Night Vale every once in a while. Still lagging behind by about five years, but I'm slowly making process. All hail the Glow Cloud!

WhatWouldJaneDo I love podcasts when I'm doing certain repetitive activities, but some work better than others for me. I tend to like listening to people having a conversation (or multiple actors in fiction, or at least someone good with voices) or I tune out more. I'm trying out audiobooks more, figure it'll be similar and some genres/narrators won't be for me. 6d
scripturient-ink @WhatWouldJaneDo I wish I could listen to more podcasts, when I manage to actually pay attention, I do quite like them! It's just really exhausting for me, so I need to be in the right mood. I guess I'm just more of a visual person :D Any podcasts that you thought were easy to listen to? 6d
WhatWouldJaneDo @scripturient-ink for fictional ones, I liked The Bright Sessions and Alice Isn't Dead a lot. I'm a fan of a lot of Wondery's shows for long form true crime (Dirty John, Dr. Death, and To Live and Die in LA are all really good). I usually listen while I'm reviewing stuff at work so my eyes are doing one thing that doesn't need a ton of brain power and then my mind doesn't wander (cleaning is also good for this combo). 6d
scripturient-ink @WhatWouldJaneDo Oh yes, I've been wanting to give Alice Isn't Dead a try. The Bright Sessions sound interesting too, thanks! Maybe I'll try listening to podcasts while jogging, that's definitely a no-brainer :D 6d
WhatWouldJaneDo @scripturient-ink that's a great idea! I'd definitely have trouble paying attention if I was just sitting and listening so I think finding the right activity pairing makes a big difference. Hope you find some that work for you, there's a lot of great stuff out there! 6d

Next up! I kind of love the cover, although I don't quite get it (yet?). I'm hoping to use this for a translation project at uni and so far it's looking good!

A Closed and Common Orbit | Becky Chambers

Pickpick

I was a tiny little bit sad that I didn't get to read about the Wayfarer again, but I still adored this book! The multiple perspectives weren't too confusing, I loved learning more about Pepper's life before and her life outside of the Wayfarer. This is a great sequel, it made me laugh & cry several times and it somehow manages to explore what it means to be “human“ (sapient? it's so confusing) through the eyes of an AI without being too heavy.

I could never quite get into Tolkien's writing (I know, I know, I'll try again), but I do love my edition of the series!

RaimeyGallant A beauty. And welcome to Litsy! #LitsyWelcomeWagon Some of us put together Litsy tips to help new Littens navigate the site. It's the link in my bio on my page in case you need it. Or if you prefer how-to videos, @chelleo put some together at the link in her bio. @LitsyWelcomeWagon

scripturient-ink @BooknerdsLife I get what people like about it, but somehow the page-long descriptions of trees and mountains just bore me to death every time 🙈🙈 1w

As someone with a lot of tattoos, that really spoke to me. What a wonderful concept.

I'm starting my journey on Litsy with A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers! I'm not very far in yet, but I'm quite enjoying it (just like the first in the series).
