I enjoyed this book and the author's perspectives on loneliness. He writes eloquently about our need to be still with ourselves so that we can prepare for true, meaningful connection with God and others. I plan to make some changes in my life in response to reading. I'd recommend this book particularly to anyone who longs for deeper connection than we can get through small talk, Instagram, or Facebook.

What an inspiring and heart-wrenching story. This is the best book I've read of 2018 so far. I learned a lot about life in North Korea, and I'm inspired to do more for the promotion of human rights worldwide.

Orbiting Jupiter | Gary D. Schmidt
Pickpick

I had low expectations for this book because I wasn't a fan of The Wednesday Wars. Orbiting Jupiter however, was really beautiful. Schmidt juxtaposed a simple life on a farm in Maine with the realities of child abuse, teen pregnancy, and the foster care system. He didn't shy away from the complications of the system, and I respect him all the more for it. I think I might use this as a class read for my middle schoolers.

An inspiring story of the kindness of our fellow human beings when it's most needed! Great to read before seeing the Broadway show Come From Away, which tells the same story. Highly recommend.

I'm so glad that this book was recommended to me. It offered a thought-provoking perspective on the challenges that Muslim women face each day in the United States. I appreciate the opportunity to learn about a culture and religion different from mine, and to be reminded of the dangers of bigotry.

This is one of the best books I've read in 2017. Beautiful writing, a unique setting, and characters that are flawed in extremely believable ways. Definitely worth the read!

Captivating! I read it in two days. The author is impressive in her ability to interweave stories in such a nuanced and fascinating way. Definitely worth reading...poolside or on a beach if possible. 🙂

This was a quick and entertaining read. Not earth shattering, but definitely interesting...I was up until 1:30 last night finishing it, so that says something!

This was one of the best books I've read in quite a while. Not only is the writing beautiful, but also the stories of Shekiba and Rashima intertwine seamlessly without confusing the reader. I feel that I have much more perspective on what it was, and is, to be a woman in Afghanistan. Fascinating and moving.

If we're judging books by their covers, I'd say this book definitely deserves a price. It's beautiful, and I feel classy when I'm seen with it! The book contains some lovely prose, almost poetic, and I like the interweaving of US culture and indigenous Puerto Rican culture. Plot wise, I think there are too many holes, and I finished a bit dissatisfied with how many items remained unexplained.

I INHALED this book! The format--a collection of letters, e-mails, and narrative--perfectly compliments the story. The writing is witty, the voices are believable, and the message is salient. Love love love!

I read positive reviews about this book, but I finished disappointed. The plot was underdeveloped, and I felt as if the author was unsuccessful in trying to bridge the genres of horror and sci-fi. I wouldn't recommend very highly.

Caryl I've been wanting to read this one. I am forewarned! I like Kenneth Oppel (Canadian author); funny that it tags the illustrator instead. 8y

Beautifully written, as John Green's work always is! I liked the structure of the chapters and the mystery of Margo Roth Spiegelman, but I also had a hard time seeing her as a believable character. I found the ending to be dissatisfying.

This book is so beautifully written, and tells a tragic story in the most poetic way possible. I think it's a book that will resonate with teenage readers as well as adults. Awareness on the topic of human trafficking is far too minimal, and Patricia McCormick should be commended for Sold.

This book was beautiful. I found myself captivated by the writing and the interweaving of two stories that ultimately become one story. The book also asks readers to consider and compare the impact of the bonds of blood, gender, and class.

This was so funny, and reminds me in its style of Peter Mayle's A Year in Provence. So interesting to hear an Iranian woman's perspective on life in America. Highly recommend!

Beautiful. The way in which Doerr depicts WWII through the eyes of a young Nazi soldier is disturbingly believable. The prose is luxurious...so many beautiful metaphors and similes. I found myself compelled to read parts aloud to my students to show what beautiful writing sounds like!

As an adult reading this book, I really enjoyed and appreciated it. As a middle school lit teacher, I've seen kids love it and hate it. It seems to be more liked by students who are more intellectual or introspective, and less so by my socializer students.

In spite of the awful cover, this book is a fascinating page turner. The characters are so real that I found myself loving and hating each of them as they moved through life.

Readasaurus_rex Europa editions usually have hideous covers that contain beautiful content. They really should consider getting a better design team 😂 8y
