Have you ever heard of a school for amphibians and reptiles? Check out “Dragonbreath“ by Ursula Vernon. This fun loving story about Danny a dragon who can‘t breathe fire and of course the school bully who is constantly reminding Danny of his flaws. This story is fun, entertaining, and truly delightful must read MF. This is a wonderful series to use for an AS in the class.

Reinforcing key ideas is a great idea for this book because students can learn so much from this book and its message. 4y

“The House of the Scorpion“ should be on your summer read list. This SF story is about a clone named Matt who was created from the cells of a powerful drug king. Matt has been hidden for six years until one day three children come and find him only things take a dramatic turn for the worst. Read this book to find out what happens to Matt.

Mazzole18 Nancy Farmer won the National Book Award for Young People's Literature in 2002 then the John Newbery Medal in 2003. DrSpalding These bubblehead books certainly have a place in your classroom library. I have never seen this resource! These books are excellent reference materials when learning about historical heroes and as you noted would be great books for independent reading. You could also offer a variety of the who was or who is series and utilize them for literature circles. Reading about historical individuals and then talking about them will aid comprehension. 4y

These picture book biographies are visually appealing and provide factual information about historical figures that our students need to know about. English learner strategy 28 refers to providing biographies to students. Your English learner strategy also works well. Sidenote, the author writes adult political thrillers. DrSpalding Because this 📖 was turned into a movie recently, it has seen a resurgence in elementary classrooms. This is a great example of science fiction. The lesson ideas show how quality novels can be used in a variety of creative ways. 4y

Follow this beloved classic as the family hunts for a bear and the trials they face on their journey. Yikes! what will happen if they find a bear? “Each Peach Pear Plum” is one of my favorite P books ever! This fun loving story has classic characters like the Three Bears and Old Mother Hubbard in it. It gets students excited to participate and interact with each poem and the catchy repetition will stay with you all day long. This book is written and illustrated by the Allan and Janet Ahlber. This book would work well for a CR in a pre school classroom.

I may have mentioned in class that Reynolds received an email or text from Kobe Bryant prior to his passing regarding the fact that this book was one of his kid‘s favorite! Since then, I have wanted to read it. This would be a great book to include as a literature circle option. 4y

This NF story captivates the reader as she moves from the north to the south and the differences she experience. This book would be perfect for a AS or SR. UDL 3.2 highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships like the Civil Rights movement in this novel.

Woodsons awards are the 2014 National Book Award for Young People's Literature and the 2015 Coretta Scott King Award for Authors. DrSpalding Several years ago, this was the jumpstart read for the record book. We actually did make fake snow! The four and five-year-olds we worked with on campus, loved the hands on aspect of the lesson. This is a classic story that can certainly be used when teaching about various seasons. 4y
