This book is beautifully made for children, it allows children to have fun and learn a couple of Colors throughout. I love that at the end of the book there is a moral: "no matter what you step in, keep walking along and singing your song......"

Hervela.L Teaching strategy I decide will go well with this book is RA and DR. For the RA: https://youtu.be/UwUlh3i4qto and here is example how children can reenactment the story DR: https://youtu.be/b8hAqIkKHsI after the teacher can use this website to allow student to have fun and have a feeling of engagement https://www.pre-kpages.com/retelling-pete-cat-i-love-my-white-shoes/ (edited) 6y
Hervela.L UDL 1.1 offer ways customizing display of information also I align it with El strategy 46. Use discovery learning activities( sharing pieces of information to solve problems) both will go great with this story, because the children will want to be hands on when they hear the jingles in the book. 6y

WendyV I just got this book yesterday from our scholastic book fair at school. It‘s a great addition to any classroom library! 6y
DrSpalding Very minor errors. I appreciate your passion for Pete! I have something very special to share with you when I review storytelling. 6y
Hervela.L @DrSpalding Oh my thank you, I went back and did some fixing. 6y
SqueakyChu This is such a cute book. When I used to read it to my grandson, I‘d sing the narrative of the book. Now he‘s into chapter books, but I loved picture books more. 😊 6y

Waiting | Kevin Henkes
post image
Pickpick

Waiting by Kevin Henkes is a modern fantasy (F) which won two (2) award Caldecott honor and Theodore Seuss Geisel honor. This book was cute and short, it filled me with wonder about the characters waiting for something.... This book demonstrate the patience these characters had and most likely teachers need to be teachers on the daily bases. Teaching strategy (S) and Shared Reading (SR) would go well with this storybook.

Hervela.L UDL 8.3 Foster collaboration and community, this will allow students to discuss their prior encounters with the lack of patience or the patience they contribute to a situation. ESOL strategy 3. Encourage self-talk (positive thinking) Will also allows students to comment on this same situation and what they could of did differently to display better patiences. #UCFlae3414sp18 6y
Hervela.L This website interview the author, gives discussion questions, and has activities for readers https://www.teachingbooks.net/media/pdf/HarperCollins/Waiting_2015.pdf (edited) 6y
DrSpalding Using the HarperCollins children‘s website is wise. It has excellent resources. Keep up the amazing posts. 6y

Cornelius: A Fable | Leo Lionni
post image
Pickpick

Cornelius by Leo Lionni is listed as traditional literature (TL) also as won Caldecott honor award for his cute and silly book. Children in the elementary level and early middle school will enjoy this book. Cornelius was a unique reptile and he could do things that his friends couldn't do. One day Cornelius meets a friend and he ask him if he will show him how to stand on his head and swing by his tail. It'll allow students to understand that

Hervela.L it's OK to be different. Teaching strategy that will align well is (S) storytelling to the students. I believe this would be a great story to engage the students with. 6y
Hervela.L This website will allows student to think a A little deeper and predict about the story. This site also provide I wonder worksheets that allowed the students to write down while being read to. http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/wonder-lionni-inc... (edited) 6y
Hervela.L The UDL I chose that best goes along with the story is 3.2 highlighting patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships. This UDL allows students to connect to there personal experience with the overall "big picture" in the story. El strategies that mash well is 31: write instructions and problems using short and less complex sentences. Also 4. Link lesson topic to students' prior knowledge. (edited) 6y
DrSpalding This author is one of my favorites. You will find out in class when I discuss author studies. These fables can share valuable lessons with students. He makes for an excellent author study. You have so many choices! 6y

Les go for a drive by Mo Willems is listed as a Modern Fantasy (F) also this book as won a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor award. Children will like this book because elephant and piggy have a lot of funny antics that guarantee laughter and fun. They are planning to go for a drive and during the planning they are putting together a getaway bag. Teaching strategy that will align with this book is RT, DR, PR and S.

Hervela.L The teacher can have student partner up and reenact the book after reading it as a storytelling (s) for the students. This would be a great website to ask the children question while they maneuver through the story https://jennifermclain.weebly.com/mo-willems-unit-plan.html (edited) 6y
Hervela.L The UDL that I would use is 5.3 Build fluencies with graduated levels of support for practice and performance. The ESOL 17 strategy states provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions. (edited) 6y
Hervela.L For the teaching strategies DR, RT and PR here's a YouTube video teachers can use to help them get a picture of how they can use these strategies http://youtu.be/iLIWd-0tFAw 6y
DrSpalding Again, a few minor errors. Excellent resource included and thoughtful UDL/EL strategies. 6y

Nate the Great Goes Down in the Dumps | Marjorie Weinman Sharmat
post image
Pickpick

Nate the Great Goes Down in the Dump is an realistic fiction, which won a Caldecott honor award. This novel was great, it allows students in elementary and middle school to connect with a character in the novel that are doing adventurous things like they are at that age. It's about a boy who goes on adventures and bring his dog along for the ride.

Hervela.L This time the fun happens in a smelly dump, but while there he solve the mystery and then he rushes off to see if his discovery was correct. This book will be a great independent reading for those students who are into great adventures and mysteries of the world. (edited) 6y
Hervela.L The teaching strategy that i found to linked to this book can be a GR, RA, and a IR for the students https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/books/nate-the-great-goes-down-in-the-dumps-... (edited) 6y
Hervela.L The UDL 2.3 supporting decoding of text, mathematical notation, and symbols will work this book. The EL 1 aligns with the book because it allows teachers to teach questioning and clarification on significant events in the book. Also teachers can use El strategy 47 use information gap activities (sharing pieces of information to solve problems) ask students questions like "what do you thinks happened to the box" (edited) 6y

Hervela.L Also this is a link for a RA for all students https://youtu.be/pWt7Ot1PW4E (edited) 6y
DrSpalding Your YouTube resources would make for great QR codes in the front of these books to support young readers. Nate is an excellent series that students would want to continue to read. 6y

Pickpick

Henry's freedom box is a biography, and the book also won a Caldecott Honor book. This book is every inspirational for students in upper elementary and higher. This book discuss the length Henry as taken to escape to freedom.Teaching strategies that can be used is S and GR. This website is a GR and a activity, vocabulary sheet. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/henrys-freedom...

Hervela.L This book align with 2 UDL: 3.1 Activate or supply background knowledge, 2.1 Clarify vocabulary and symbols. Both of those UDL will allow teachers to help students meet both of those strategies while reading this book. ESOL 8 will go well with this book, using direct instruction: modeling, explaining, scaffolding, name the strategy and show to use it. #ucflae3414sp18 (edited) 6y
Hervela.L https://youtu.be/BMcuYezhwAQ here is a link to a RA. Which can be used for EL students, the RA is slowed down when turning each page and the book zoom in on specify important things in the book. (edited) 6y
