This would be a great story to read to younger elementary students. #UCFLAE3414SP18

BriannaR I would use this story as a RA and DR. UDL 9.1 and ESOL Strategy 10. This is a link that has fun interactive activities for younger students https://www.kindergartenworks.com/kindergarten-teaching-ideas/22-no-david-activi... 6y

A Picture Book of Anne Frank written by David Adler illustrated by Karen Ritz is a wonderful child-friendly Biography about Anne Frank and her family before they were captured and forced to live on concentration camps. Though this is a said story, it'll still be great to use in a classroom during a history lesson when teaching about the Holocaust. #UCFLAE3414SP18

BriannaR I would use UDL Strategies 1.1-1.3 because (depending on the grade level) I'll show movies and other sources of representation that help students understand what was going on during that time. This is a link that provides many lessons that would go well with this story https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/we-remember-an.... ESOL Strategies 36, 44, and 48. Where the Sidewalk Ends written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein is a classic poetry book that I read when I was younger. This book is composed of many poems and short stories that comes with drawings that are in black and white. I would use this as a RA, AS, and DR. UDL Strategy 9.1 because when reading to children before starting a lesson may open up their minds to start the day. It can also be refreshing to them too. #UCFLAE3414SP18

This is a RF and F book that won the Florida Sunshine State Book Award. #UCFLAE3414SP18

BriannaR A good UDL Strategy I would use for this book is 3.2 because I'll show the relationship between not having glasses and it's consequences. Rumpelstiltskin retold and illustrated by Paul O Zelinsky is a traditional lit. story about a miller's daughter who supposedly can spin straw into gold. Though she can't, a little man name Rumplestiltskin comes to save the day. This folktale had won a Caldecott Award for best picture book. #UCFLAE3414SP18

BriannaR A UDL Strategy I would choose is 2.1 since this story has a lot of upper-level words. This is a link to a lesson plan that would be perfect for a teacher reading this story as a RA, S, and DR http://www.paulozelinsky.com/rumpelstiltskin_lessons.html. ESOL Strategies I would use are 5 and 23. 6y

This remarkable SF 1962 story follows a young girl along with her younger brother and a new friend on an adventure to look for their father. I am so ready for the movie to come out. #UCFLAE3414SP18

BriannaR This book could be used in the classroom as a LC, IR, GR, and PR. This link offers many classroom activities for students to do with most on the major content areas https://www.weareteachers.com/a-wrinkle-in-time-activities/. ESOL Strategies #20, 30, and 45. She persisted written by Chelsea Clinton and illustrated by Alexandra Boiger. This is a great nonfiction story that tells the story of 13 American women who has paved the way for not on American girls but girls of all nationalities. This is a link that takes to a site that has many fun activities that would be useful in classroom; whether it be for History or English http://www.booknerdmommy.com/persisted-mini-biography-activity-idea/.

BriannaR Some good teaching strategies that would be good are RA, IR, SR, and DR. I would love to do this a a read aloud the most because you can read a person a day and have students do a mini project on that person. The UDL strategy I would use is 7.2 because it'll show students how these 13 women impacted our lives today. ESOL Strategies number 45, 48, and 28. #UCFLAE3414SP18 6y
BriannaR By the way I read that she might be in the process of making a She Persisted 2 6y

Duke Ellington: The Piano Prince and His Orchestra is a nonfiction story written by Andrea Pinkney and illustrated by Brian Pinkney. This biography explains how Ellington became an advocate for jazz. This would be a great book to introduce to students during music class when learning about jazz or during black history month when learning about all the African Americans who helped shaped society today. #UCFLAE3414SP18

BriannaR The UDL strategy that I would use would be 2.5 because I would play his music in the classroom to let students hear what music was like in the 50s and 60s. I would use this book with RA, DR, IR, and S. Along with EL strategies like numbers 30, 46, and 45. 6y
