As a ‘90s kid who coveted all things American Girl, I have to admit that the AG episodes we‘ve done so far on my book podcast have been especially near and dear to my heart. Episode 204 feels extra special, though! On it, the wonderful author Ebony LaDelle joins me to discuss all things MEET ADDY, American Girl business, BIPOC representation, and more. 🇺🇸 Listen at the link in my bio.

This HF book shows the hardships of slavery in a way kids can relate to. The theme of this book is perseverance. Addy, a 9 year old lives during the Civil War. She has an older brother named Sam and baby sister named Esther. Her parents love them all very much and want their family to stay together. They are faced with whether to run or stay. This would be best used as IR while learning about slavery.

GGallegos http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/critical-perspect... URL 3.3 is important as we guide and show students part of our horrible past. ESOL strategy 17 would be very important. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y

Hervela.L UDL 2.4 promote understanding across languages. I thought this UDL would be appropriate because there's some words that aren't proper English in the novel. ESOL 5. Teach technical vocabulary supporting key concept, ESOL 23. Structure advance organizers assisting for new terminology that learners will encounter in the new lesson vocabulary to be reviewed. 6y

Laura.S @Hervela.L I love that you chose to post about an American a Girl Book. I used to have these dolls when I was younger. I think it would be An amazing choice for black history month since it features an African American child. 6y
Hervela.L @Laura.S sorry for the super late reply, i'm still getting the hang of this. Thank you for the compliment, this book was so emotional 6y
DrSpalding I‘m thrilled you read the story. There are so many of them that your students would enjoy. Being historical fiction, they will learn social studies content while enjoying the story of a fictitious child. Well done. 6y

With about a week left in Women's History Month I was thinking about the books I've read over the years that showcase amazing women. Although fiction, the American Girl books were the best foundation I could hope for. History AND female role models! Addy was my favorite but they were all so great!

acg These books helped with establishing my love of historical fiction! 8y

Chelsey Addy was my favorite!!! My best friend's family was wealthier then we were and she had Samantha and Felicity, but I just loved Addy. Before my mom could save up to get her for me, I had all of her books and read them over and over again. 8y
