It is a fiction book based off a true story about a girl and her service dog. Rescue is learning how to be a service dog and Jessica has recently lost her legs due to the Boston Marathon Bombing. Something Like Gravity is a young adult fiction book written by Amber Smith. It is about two teens, Chris and Maia, who can‘t seem to stay away from each other. They each have their own struggles they are dealing with. Chris has come out as transgender and Maia is grieving the loss of her older sister. They are neighbors for the summer and love is the last thing on their minds, however love still seemed to appear. This book was published in 2019.

The One and Only Ivan is children‘s fiction novel written by Katherine Applegate. It was published in 2012 and is inspired by a true story. It is about a gorilla named Ivan who has spent 27 years being held captive in a shopping mall. He then meets an elephant named Ruby, a baby who has been taken away from her family. Ivan and his friends try to make a change for the better. It has won many awards including the Newbery Award.

If I Had a Little Dream is a beautiful poem by Nina Laden. It is illustrated by Melissa Castrillon. It was published in 2017. This book talks about joy, love, and beauty in every day life. It is a gorgeous book.

However, she proved to the world that her research was correct.

Nasreen‘s Secret School is a nonfiction book about a young girl who is growing up in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is being controlled by the Taliban. The girls were not allowed to do a lot of things such as go to school. However, Nasreen finds out about a secret school for girls and takes a big risk in going. This book is by Jeanette Winter. It was published in 2009. It has won many awards such as the Jane Addams Children‘s Book Award.

On Market Street is a book written by Arnold Lobel. It is illustrated by Anita Lobel. It‘s a fiction book where a little boy goes to Market Street to buy different things. Each different thing he buys starts with a different letter of the alphabet and it goes in order from A-Z. This book was published in 1981 and has received the Caldecott medal and the National Book Award.

Dogger is a super cute fiction book by Shirley Hughes. It was published in 1977. It is about a young boy named Dave who has a stuffed toy named Dogger. It is his favorite toy. One day, Dave loses Dogger and is heartbroken. He sees Dogger at the fair, but someone buys him. He then has to try and get Dogger Back. This book has won a Kate Greenaway Award.

Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper is a fun fiction book. It was published in 1998. This book has won the Kate Greenaway Award. It is about how three friends always make pumpkin soup the same way, but one day Duck wants to stir and then there is a squabble. Cat and Squirrel start to worry and then go to find their friend. I really enjoyed this book.

My Family Plays Music is a fiction book published in 2003. It is written by Judy Cox and illustrated by Elbrite Brown. It is a book that celebrates music as a young girl tries out different genres and instruments. Her other family members play instruments as well. This book has won the Corretta Scott King Award.

A Visitor for Bear, a fiction book published in 2008 is a super cute book where bear does not like visitors. However, mouse taps on his door and keeps appearing. It is written by Bonnie Becker and illustrated by Kady MacDonald Denton. This book has won many awards including a Golden Kite Award, E.B. White Read Aloud Award, ForeWord Magazine's book of the year, and the 2009 Notables Book of the Association for Library Service to Children.

We Don't Eat Our Classmates is a super cute fiction book. It is written by Ryan T. Higgins and it was published in 2018. It is about Penelope Rex's first day of school and she can't wait to meet her classmates. However, her classmates are very tasty. She also gets a taste of her own medicine. This book has won the E.B. White Read-Aloud Award, the Charolette Zolotow Award, and the Irma Simonton Black and James H. Black Award.

The Day the Crayons Quit is one of my favorite children's books. It is a fiction book written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers. It is about a box of crayons that write letters to their owner Duncan. They have had enough and they quit. The each write a letter and share their reasons. This book was published in 2013. It has won many awards including the E.B. White Read-Aloud Award, and Amazon and Goodread's 2013 best picture book.

Down, Down the Mountain is a fiction book by Ellis Credle. It was published in 1932. It is about two children who wanted to have their own pairs of shoes. They go to granny who tells them to grow turnips. When the turnips are grown, the children go down the mountain to try to sell them for shoes. This book has won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award.

Pat the Bunny is the first children's touch and feel interactive children's book. It is written by Dorthy Kunhardt and it was published in 1940. Instead of having a linear narrative, the book invites children to engage in activities such as patting the rabbit fur or playing peekaboo with a cloth.

Owl Moon by Jane Yolen is a realistic fiction book. It was published in 1987. It is about a girl who goes owling with her dad in the woods. They have to be quiet and they hope they will see an owl. It has won many awards including the 1988 Caldecott Medal.

This book is about sixteen year old Aly who wants to become a spy in the service of her father. Her father wants her to live a safe life. Her mother returns after a long trip and Aly decides to go visit a friendly lord. However, she is captured by pirates and sold into slavery. Aly makes a wager to protect the four daughters of the Duke of the family. If she succeeds she will be returned home but if she fails she will be pressed into service

Jabari Jumps is a fiction book by Gaia Cornwall. It is about a boy who is ready to jump off the diving board after his swimming lessons. He gets scared but then overcomes his fear of jumping off the diving board. His dad is very supportive the whole time. It is a great book for children. It was published in 2017 and won the Charlotte Zolotow Award, the ALSC notable children‘s books, and the CCBC choices in 2018.

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats is a fiction book published in 1962. It is the first children's picture book to have a black protagonist. The story is about a boy playing in the snow and exploring after the first snowfall of the season. This book won the 1963 Caldecott award for its illustrations.

After the fall by Dan Santat is a fiction book about the classic character Humpty Dumpty. Instead of just talking about his fall, it goes through and talks about how he got back up again, recovered from his fall, and learned to fly. It was published in 2017. It was the 2019 winner of the Indie Discovery Book Awards. I think this is a great way to talk to children about trying again even after having a scare.

Ish is a fiction book by Peter H. Reynolds is a book about a boy who learns to think “ish-ly“ instead of getting it right. After his older brother makes fun of his drawing, Ramon wants to quit. However, his little sister loves his drawings and gives him a new outlook on life. Ish was published in 2004 and it won a Notable Children's Videos Award in 2006.

A Little SPOT of Anxiety by Diane Alber is a great way to talk about this emotion with children. It is a fiction book. It talks about a grey spot representing anxiety and when the feeling becomes too overwhelming, there is a way to manage it and make it become a little green spot, which represents feeling at peace. It was published in 2019.

Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag is a fiction book about how an old man and an old woman are lonely and want a cat. The man goes to get one, but he cannot pick one. He takes all the cats and they end up fighting each other until there is one left. The man and woman love the cat that is left and end up very happy. This book was published in 1928 and won the Newbery Award in 1929. Very few picture books have won this award.

When Sadness is at Door is a great fiction book to discuss emotions and being sad. It talks about how it‘s okay to let sadness in and it is normal. It also talks about doing things you enjoy. It was published in 2019. It has won awards in 2020 like the Klaus Flugge Prize and the V&A Award. In 2019 it was also shortlisted for the World of Illumination Award and included in the exhibition of the illustrating mental health conference.

A kitten sees it‘s first full moon and thinks it‘s a bowl of milk. He goes out to try to get to “the bowl of milk” and does not succeed. He sees the reflection in the pond and falls in trying to get to the milk. He ends up wet, hungry, and sad. When he gets home there is a bowl of milk waiting and he is happy. It won the Caldecott award for pictures and was published in 2004. The genre is fiction and it is written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes.
