Flame in the Mist | Renaee Ahdieh
post image
Pickpick

Hi guys! I've busy with the end of the semester, exams and moving and whatnot but I still managed to finish Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh this week and I really loved it! The more I read, the more I enjoyed the story. It reminded me a bit of The Wrath and the Dawn, blended with Asian dramas, with an amazing heroine. A bit predictable sometimes, but I really liked it nevertheless!

Adam's very religious parents find out their son is gay and send him to a Christian camp, where he falls in love with his bunkmate. That's the basic plot of the story, which also flirts with issues such as depression and slit shaming. However much potential I felt this book had I think it could have explored the subjects more carefully and deeply. I honestly felt that it all happened too fast. Good, but could have been much better!

I really loved the concept of this book (Emmy, a teenage girl dealing with anxiety and body issues moves to Vancouver with her uncle and aunt, and falls in love with Jude, her cousin's attractive trans friend). Still trying to gather my thoughts on the actual story because all the body negativity made me a bit uncomfortable, and I felt like everything happened all too fast. I would love to hear your thoughts if you have also read this book!

One of Us Is Lying | Karen M. Mcmanus

Books I read this week: One Of Us Is Lying. Mystery/thriller with a group of four unreliable narrators. Full of twists, trying to uncover who the real murderer is, and what happened in detention, where one student died. My only regret is that it was a little too cliché sometimes!

The Fate of the Tearling was the perfect ending to The Queen if the Tearling trilogy, with all my favourite characters obviously, more delving into the past of the Tearling as well as crazy, incredible plot twists. I loved it. This trilogy is the perfect blend of fantasy and politics, with a great insight on our society I believe. You should check it out!

Sorry I didn't post a lot over the weekend! I finished reading my ARC copy of Dear Martin yesterday. This book will be released in October and you should definitely be on the lookout for it. It's a crude, realistic story inspired by Black Lives Matter and what it's like to be a Black teen today. Our society still has a lot to do, unfortunately. And I believe this book is a must read.

I finally finished reading The Hate U Give and it was a lot to take in. Very powerful. A bit of a punch in the heart. This book will make you think and realise how much we still have to do to make this world a better place. I think everyone should read it. Absolute 5 stars.

One of my latest reads is Shattered Girls by Tyrolin Puxty and I really loved it. It is the sequel to Broken Dolls, following the two main characters Ella and Gabby in a semi fantastic universe where people are mysteriously disappearing only to reappear as dolls... I really loved Ella's character development and I think I liked this one even better than the first book actually! Full review on my blog very soon! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
