Hugely enjoying this delightful book so far. Memoirs of Samuel Beckett, Simone de Beauvoir and Paris ... what more enticing ingredients could one ask for? #book #books #deirdrebair #parisianlives #samuelbeckett #simonedebeauvoir #paris #coffee #booksandcoffee #coffeeandbooks #bookish #bookphotography #caffeineaddict #bookcommunity #booklove book nerd #caffeine #cafemelange #wakeupandsmellthecoffee #wakeupandsmellthecoffin

Life imitating art, or something like that, having watched ‘Layer Cake‘ yesterday, one of the scenes of which was filmed here. I am enjoying ‘The Death of the Fronsac‘ so far and the breakfast obviously helps too. #regencycafe #book #books #bookstagram #thedeathofthefronsac #nealascherson #breakfast #coffee #caffeine #booksandcoffee #coffeeandbooks #wakeupandsmellthecoffee #wakeupandsmellthecoffin #caffeineaddict #breakfastofthegods #scottishsalad

A remarkably civilised way to start the day, and I have learned something new already. Somehow the scholastic attribution of the play ‘Edward III‘ to Shakespeare had completely passed me by. #johnjuliusnorwich #shakespeareskings #book #currentlyreading #books #bookstagram #shakespeare #history #booksandcoffee #coffeeandbooks #caffeine #caffeineaddict #wakeupandsmellthecoffee #wakeupandsmellthecoffin

Eyejaybee @Wanderingwithwords I have only just started it, but it is marvellous so far. 6y
Vikkiha Haven‘t quite got round to this yet but I‘ve been planning to since I heard her on the Book Shambles podcast a while back. She was really knowledgeable and funny, I couldn‘t help but add all her books to my wish list. 6y

Eyejaybee @Vikkiha I have enjoyed her programmes on BBC Radio 4, and loved her novels, The Amber Fury and The Children of Jocasta. She has a great prose style, and imparts a huge amount of knowledge about the Classics without ever being patronising. 6y
Vikkiha I haven‘t listed to her Radio 4 programmes, going to see if any are on iplayer. Thanks for the tip. 😊 6y
Eyejaybee @Vikkiha I am hoping to go to the recording of her next show on 23 May. 6y
Vikkiha Good luck, hope you tks. Enjoy! 6y

Just a few pages in and I am already captivated by this book about the cultural, philosophical and literary rebirth in post-War Paris. Best coffee so far this week, too. #agnespoirier #leftbank #book #books #currentlyreading #bookstagram #coffeecompass #verocaffe #friernbarnet #coffee #caffeine #caffeineaddict #booksandcoffee #coffeeandbooks #wakeupandsmellthecoffee #wakeupandsmellthecoffin #philosophy #politics #paris

aquariusnat The main reservation I have about reading this book is that I'm a little confused about why she chose the timeline of 1940-1950 since Paris was occupied by the Nazis in the early 1940s. I have a hard time believing a lot happened during that period . 6y
Eyejaybee I wondered about that point, too. I have only read the first couple of chapters so far, and there is a lot of interesting material there. 6y
