Saw a copy of this at the Chinese language section of a bookstore over the weekend. Didn‘t see the English edition.
This illustrated book is a tribute to 13 inspirational Americans, a charming way of introducing some great figures to his daughters and explaining how inspiring they were.

#AyupAugust
This sweeping saga of the Meahuna family from WWII to Hawaii‘s statehood is still in my #TBR but I will get to it one of these days. 📚📚📚😬📚📚As it centers around a local 🌺 jazz musician looking for his soul mate after war has torn them apart it seemed to fit the #SingItBack prompt. In the book jazz music is referred to as “the tongue of the exile.”

Cinfhen Lovely choice 5y
squirrelbrain Sounds like a lovely book! ❤️ 5y

squirrelbrain I‘ve read one of the ‘Two Old Fools‘ books, but I don‘t think it was that one - it was very funny though! 5y

#SingItBack in this mystery series set in North Carolina - the police chief of the town is also the choir director of his local Episcopal Church. He also really wants to be a mystery writer. Murder happens, in the choir loft no less, and so the police chief is on the case.

My mom gave me her copy - she didn‘t like it. But, everyone else I know who has read this book thinks the series is hilarious. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I‘ve yet to read it... #ayupaugust

Tamra Sounds kinda fun! 5y
squirrelbrain I agree @Tamra, it does sound fun doesn‘t it?! 5y
Librarybelle @Tamra @squirrelbrain I‘ve heard this series described as one where you‘re holding your belly the entire time because you‘re laughing so much it hurts! My mom, who really enjoys humor, saw the humor but just didn‘t connect to the setting/situation. She loves mysteries, but this one fell flat for her. Who knows?? 5y

#AyUpAugust Even though YA isn‘t really my preferred genre, I‘m still curious about this book. The story of a wannabe female rapper🎤 #SingItBack

TrishB It‘s a good story, with lots of life lessons! But it is YA, very similar to her first. 5y
squirrelbrain I enjoyed this one, although perhaps not as much as THUG... 5y
Reviewsbylola I liked THUG a lot despite my aversion to YA so I think I‘ll read this one eventually. 5y

My little song will keep you beside me
Thinking your name as I sing 🎶

William Eng, an orphaned Chinese-American, hears his mother‘s haunting song...perhaps she is alive. He runs away to try and find her

squirrelbrain I loved Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet - stacking this one! Great choice.... 5y
Cinfhen I read another book by this author but it was only ok 5y
Eggs I think Hotel was my favorite among the 3, with Willow Frost a close 2nd. But I would try anything by this author @Cinfhen (edited) 5y

megnews After I read this a couple years ago, I gobbled up the rest of her memoirs. Read most in a day or two. So good and hard to put down. 5y
TrishB @megnews I need to read the rest too 👍🏻 5y
youneverarrived Love her ♥️ 5y
Cinfhen Heard this book is difficult to get through 😬 5y
Centique This is one of my all time favourite books. Must reread it soon! @Cinfhen the bad part is awful - not drawn out for too long though if my memory is right - but then her story is ultimately so uplifting and powerful. You could definitely do it 🌟⭐️🌟 5y
TrishB @youneverarrived an awesome lady ♥️ 5y
TrishB @Cinfhen there are some difficult parts, I think if someone is telling their own story it‘s even more difficult, but it is short and essential I think for her reflection and our understanding. An amazing lady. 5y
Cinfhen #stacked 😢 thanks for the gentle push @Centique @TrishB ❣️❣️❣️ 5y
