After finishing SORCERER TO THE CROWN for #RiotRead, I started wondering what books might make up the Sorcerer Royal's library... a few hours on Google and I picked a few for @bookriot http://bookriot.com/2016/11/23/books-in-the-sorcerer-royals-library/

Yossarian Always wanted to "read" that one. 7y

Prunella might be my favorite main character of 2016, and I agree with everyone who said the book picks up once she appears! Overall, this take on magic being mixed with politics made for a satisfying read I couldn't put down. All I wished for was a bit more of a peek into the Fairyland and additional character development to make the protagonists truly stand out, but if you are looking for a fun read, this is it. #riotread

Stereotypical and predictable. I've tried to like this for six days and it's just not going to happen. Dark skinned orphans surrounded by privileged white people. Got it the first ten times you told me. I've read so many great books with protagonists who are minorities that I just don't have the patience for this one. #riotread

Dedebimp Oh no. I am planning on reading it soon. Cute kitty! 7y
LauraJ @Dedebimp well, most people liked it, so... 7y
Dedebimp I am the person that usually doesn't like the things most people like. 😟 7y

Sarahj87 Ahh this is a bookclub pick I suggested and I cannot get into it! 😖Haven't bailed yet on a bookclub pick so I'm sure I'll get through but finding it hard to motivate myself to read. I'm surprised based on all the great things I heard about it 7y

Very much a mash-up of Jane Austen + Jonathan Strange. Slow start until I was pulled in by the ladies who cause the plot to ramp up. The magic/faery elements are amazing! Regency England's racism & sexism feels 'too real' for me in our current climate, but happily our #diverse MCs are sharp and kick bigotry's butt. A few annoyances, but overall happy to have finally read it! Some great surprises.

Not sure if it was me or the book that was slow to start but once Prunella and then Mak appeared, things kicked into gear! I am able to do little else, I want to keep reading so bad...
And #girlpower! This is a delightfully #diverseread.
Will let you know if it holds up through to the end...

Beachesnbooks Mak was hands down my favorite character, loved her!! 7y

I loved this amazing book! Now I understand why everyone raves about it! It felt like the best parts of Harry Potter, Dickens, and Jane Austen all rolled into one with a multicultural cast 😄 seriously, read this book and then listen to @bookriot 's interview with the author on November 10th. #riotread ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

LeeRHarry Great rec, they sure loved it on #bookriot 😊 7y

This was everything I ever wanted in a fantasy book and more! It definitely deserved the hype. I loved this #riotread and can't wait to participate in the next one 😊

This book is a great example of why good diverse rep is crucial in publishing. Zacharias, the first ever black Sorcerer Royal and Prunella( hallelujah South Indian rep) a woman with extraordinary magical abilities, team up tackle problems with politics, and faeries, and a bigoted society. Cho has skilfully written a feminist book by subtly mocking the bigotry typical to that era. Looking forward to the sequel. #riotread #ownvoices #wndb

Cobscook This one started slow for me but once I fell into the rhythm, I loved it! 7y
Nafiza I am 82 pages in and loving it. 7y
