Rebecca | Daphne D Maurier

Crinoline_Laphroaig This is where I lose any sympathy I had for Jan. It doesn't matter Max is a murderer, what's important is HE DIDN'T LOVE REBECCA! She becomes a bit like Rebecca in that she doesn't care about anything except what she wants. I could see her going over the edge in later years and murderibg Max because she thinks he doesn't love her enough. 2w

BarkingMadRead @Crinoline_Laphroaig that‘s a really good point, it shows just how much she hasn‘t grown up! 2w
julieclair Whoa! Didn‘t see that one coming! And Jan… she‘s a woman obsessed… it‘s like the knowledge that Max didn‘t love Rebecca is pulling her back from tipping over the edge of madness. 2w
Clare-Dragonfly Augh… I was afraid she was going to try to protect him. I hope she fails. Will they find the bullet in the ship? It must be somewhere, so it‘s either in her body or in the cottage. But her body has decomposed (I think the cop said it was skeletal), so the bullet could have fallen somewhere they can‘t find it… (edited) 2w
5feet.of.fury Yeah this is wild, she gets on board with the cover up wayyyy too quickly 2w
IndoorDame How is having someone else‘s baby the one thing about living with her that tips it over the edge!!!!??? That would seriously NOT be my biggest problem if she were my wife! 2w
ElizaMarie I had thought Rebecca was a cheater when they talked about these long nights in the cottage. Am I the only one that‘s okay with murder!? Ha. I mean. Not to say murder is super okay, but she did back him into a corner. And —- she was evil and… you are “allowed” to kill the antichrist. Right!? #NoItsJustMe 2w
Roary47 @IndoorDame I agree, why is this the straw for him. I‘m thinking it was the delivery. @ElizaMarie I‘m with you. More a take down would have been more preferred, but your right he was backed into a corner with pure evil. If he wasn‘t backed into a corner I see that he could have showed her true colors. Exposed her infidelity. Something. 2w
Ruthiella All I can say is keep reading folks! I have my own ideas about Rebecca‘s motivations. I also noted Jan‘s primary focus now of being truly loved and I think I would have had the same blind obsession at 21 or 22. (edited) 2w
ElizaMarie @Roary47 Yes. like the question: “Would you go back in time and kill baby Hitler?“ I am guessing, yes.

But I agree. If she wasn't so cocky with her evilness. I am sure Max would have had no choice but to get divorced from her eventually. But, she was slipping up so much, it was going to all come out what type of person she was eventually.

Bookwormjillk This is my 3rd time reading and for some reason I remembered this as the end of the book, but we still have a ways to go. So hard to stop today. 2w
willaful @IndoorDame It's because the baby would inherit Manderley. It's all about the property. 2w
willaful @ElizaMarie That seemed implausible to me too. I'm sure Max could've found evidence 2w
dabbe @Ruthiella Rebecca truly egged him on; it seemed as if she wanted to get as big a rise out of him as she could. As you so eloquently said, #keepreadingfolks! 🤩 2w
dabbe @willaful Agree 💯. Maxim loves Manderley more than anyone--even the narrator. His de Winter pride is at stake. 2w
