La Chioma di Berenice | Amalia Frontali

As I'm at work and there's not much to do 'cause is Easter, I'm reading an italian ebook.
I'm not really into it, but bail on book definitely is not my style! 💪
I hope it will get better soon

• Couldn't hang in there any longer; DNF at page 106 or 33% of the ebook. I hate to do this •

Catherine_Willoughby What did you hate about it? 4y
bibliobliss @Catherine_Willoughby The writing style and first person narrative 4y
WomanistBibliophile I didn‘t enjoy this one either. Atwood‘s writing style is very unappealing to me. Although I read to the end it was not worth it. 4y
bibliobliss @WomanistBibliophile Completely understand 4y

• I misread or misunderstood the synopsis of the tagged book: this is a young adult novel with a MC in high school. The language and manner of speaking shows Emoni's annoying youth. It might be a good story, but I can't read a character who commonly uses the slang word "moms." No thank you, not at this time and doubtful in the future •

TheBookKeepers Aw yeah it did feel heavy on the “Y” in YA!! I did enjoy the audiobook of this one, but the food descriptions kept me going! Kudos for bailing tho, if a book isn‘t working I‘m 💯 down for bailing on it! Sooo many other great books to spend time on! 4y
bibliobliss @TheBookKeepers I tried but this format wasn't working. I might try the audio, now that you mention it 😉 Thanks 4y

Mehso-so

I was determined not to bail on this book, and so I powered through and finished it over the weekend. Unfortunately, despite the beautiful cover and interesting premise all it scored with me was a "meh." Overall a little bit long-winded, meandering and less than enthusiastic. There was some drama and some characters that made an impression (Krig and Rita) for whom I pushed through to the end. #recentlyread #nospoilers #notmycupoftea #meh

2.5⭐️ I‘ve read just about everything in here I need to read right now. I‘ll reserve the revision chapter for after NaNo. Some of this is very specific to writing fantasy works, which I do not, so I had to take those things with a grain of salt. He likes Campbell‘s whole “Hero‘s Journey” thing, which I do not. I disagree with parts of this and felt disheartened by others. The writing challenges are very specific to each chapter (cont‘d below)

GingerAntics so they cannot be used for whatever you‘re working on or developing. The writing exercises in the back are specific to the fantasy genre, so if you‘re not writing that you‘re SOL. I like my writing exercises to be more utilitarian than Vandermeer I guess. I‘m glad I didn‘t have to read this for a class. I honestly probably would have dropped a class centred on this text before it made just not want to write at all. (Cont‘d below) 6y
GingerAntics This wasn‘t the writing book for me. I did enjoy discovering new authors and I‘m a huge Neil Gaiman fan so I greatly enjoyed his essay. I probably learned more about writing from Neil Gaiman‘s tumblr account that I did from this book. If this is your genre this is probably a great book for you. It just wasn‘t for me. The graphics are great, but their placement got old and then obnoxious fast. (cont‘d below) 6y
GingerAntics I took a few things from this book, but not enough for this book to be worth it for me. I honestly think there are two things from this text I plan to incorporate into my own writing. Again, this may be the text for you, but it‘s not for me. #wonderbook #jeffvandermeer #creativewriting #nanowrimo #notmycupoftea 6y
GingerAntics As reference, I plan to incorporate studying poetry to study concise ways to describe things, and writing your ending then deleting the last paragraph or two to add in a bit of mystery/ambiguity to your ending so readers can infer things for themselves; although, admittedly I am a fan of ending things with a question of two left unanswered anyway, so it might not always be necessary. Smrloomis Great book. Way too scary for me but I had to finish it 😳. Also completely freaked out by the movie when I saw it, even though I knew what would happen 🤷🏻‍♀️ 7y

DGRachel I ❤️ Cormac McCarthy. I read the book ages ago. I loved the book but have no desire to see the movie, even with Viggo (*swoon*) 7y
Graciouswarriorprincess I loved the book and the movie. Scary, sad but so worth it. 7y
DivineDiana @Smrloomis Haven't seen the movie. Sounds like I should pass! 7y

Zombie | Joyce Carol Oates

I am one of those readers who feels an obligation to the author to finish what I start. This was the only book that broke my code. I have loved other books by the author and was privileged to hear her speak at a local book store. Based on a true story of a serial killer. Extremely dark. #dangeroustype #rockinmay #notmycupoftea #knowthyself

Cinfhen Love all your hashtags 😂💗🙌🏻and this would have been perfect for #zombie 👻👿💀 7y
DivineDiana @Cinfhen I thought the same thing! But glad, I saved it for this challenge! 😉 7y
