The Rest of Her Life | Laura Moriarty

I loved this book- couldn‘t put it down. As a woman, I related to the main character. It also reminded me of some important life lessons- we all mess up but you have to learn to forgive yourself and keep going, it‘s not too late to make a change, and it‘s important to let people in. Cliques perhaps but truths nonetheless. Iykyk.

This book has more similes than a 9th grade English assignment on descriptive writing, and if I had to read one more “I think I‘m southern if I can‘t say a sentence without some goofy expression” page I would have exploded like a too-ripe watermelon dropped from the back of the truck on a bumpy road heading to market. Sheesh!
Read Flannery O‘Connor - skip this one. #24in2024 number 9 also #doublespin

• family drama • family secrets • contemporary fiction • 2.5 Stars Meh 🫤

This novel weaves together the lives of three generations of women.
• Gina Zoberski: The protagonist, an optimist who runs a gourmet grilled cheese food truck.
• Lorraine: Gina‘s fastidious mother, who catalogues all her faults.
• May: Gina‘s sullen teenage daughter.
⬇️

suvata Gina strives to make it through each day despite her mother‘s critical nature and her daughter‘s rebellion. Her relentless optimism sometimes annoys both Lorraine and May. When Lorraine suffers a sudden stroke, Gina discovers a family secret that Lorraine has kept hidden for forty years. As her mother‘s health deteriorates and her daughter rebels, Gina embarks on a journey to uncover the truth. 2mo

10-31-23: My 93rd finished book of 2023! I have to be honest, not one of these characters, especially the 3 main Donnelly women, are likable. Mindy and Ginger are the daughters of Carol, a woman who would rather surf then raise her girls. Spanning from the 50s through the 60s, from the sunny Beach Boy vibes to the turbulent Vietnam war, Mindy, Ginger and Carol go their separate ways but always have the surf as their common denominator.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Transporting readers to sunny 1960s California and Hawaii, this book is steeped in surf culture and complicated mother-daughter-sister dynamics. It‘s a difficult journey for these characters, and while I could empathize with their situations, I struggled to fully connect. #Aardvark #AardvarkBookClub

The ever-growing Madagascar Dragon Tree next to my reading chair had a baby limb pop out! Guess he likes my CO2!

Benjamin tells the story of a mother who feels trapped by 1950s expectations of motherhood and escapes into surfing. Her two daughters deal with abandonment issues while finding their way into the waves. One finds commercial success while the other treads a more dangerous path. Nice summer read that isn‘t too fluffy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Coming of age story of two daughters of a surf champion mom in the mid-twentieth century. The surf culture setting was interesting, and the constraints put on women were stifling and infuriating. I found at least half of the characters more maddening than sympathetic, but still an interesting book.

Nightly for Stella and Luna, Mama Elsie spins two tales: that of her youth as a strong-willed middle child and immigrant; and that of the young life of Mayari, the mythical daughter of a god. Novel in verse
