Cinfhen I'm about 250 pages in and I actually feel sorry for the dad. He's not mean, violent, abusive - he's an alcoholic . But his poor wife & children- how they suffer 😢💔 7y

TrishB @Cinfhen I think I'm coming from bitter twisted personal angle (long time ago now!) and you are a much kinder person 💓 having lived with such a person I'm finding it difficult to find any sympathy! 7y

Cinfhen I can't even imagine EVER having to live with such a man 😪you're not having sympathy is justified because it's the innocents who suffer the most 7y

This quote broke my heart as much of this book did--when it wasn't making me outraged at the horrific crimes & injustices against the Osage tribe. As my #minibuddyread pal @Cinfhen said, it's shameful that most of us know little to nothing about this history-but this book is absorbing not just for bringing this story to light, it's also an interesting look at the formation of the FBI & 1920s crime investigation & coverup. A '2017 Best' for me.👍👍

Cinfhen Yes that quote and a few others really stood out for me! I hadn‘t considered what would happen when an all white jury was deciding the fate of the men who committed the crimes. Shame on us! 7y

DebinHawaii @Cinfhen Yes, I was undecided about posting it because it makes me cringe everything I read it but it was the quote that most smacked me in the face. Such a travesty of justice in so many ways. Their wealth, the whole 'ward' program. Even the fact that the author found so much more that was never followed up on or reported-families not knowing for sure. Just horrible. 7y

About a hundred pages ago and my #minibuddyread companion @Cinfhen has already finished--the joys of time zones as it is 7:00 AM here.⏰😆Just in time for breakfast & this one is SO GOOD! Leftover rice & a piece of salmon turned into fried rice w/ egg, green onion, seasonings & sesame seeds. Going to finish this book before doing some kitchen experimenting & #audiosouping later.🍲The book is so absorbing-equal turns fascinating & ire-inducing. 😡🤔

Day 11 #emojinov #😡Non-Fiction I read over this year (or am currently reading-Killers of the Flower Moon w/ @Cinfhen #minibuddyread) that are good & important but make me really angry.😡Whether it's greed (corporate, governmental or personal), bureaucracy, lack of justice, coverups, bigotry & intolerance, abuse of power, bad parental choices, or a combination--it's shameful history both past & recent & in some cases, in danger of being repeated😡

Was going to start my morning outside at the coffeeshop with this book but it's been raining hard off & on since the early hours. I ran my errands-got only a little damp-& now I'm setting in with a peaches & cream scone from the bakery in my local natural foods store & Pukka's chamomile, vanilla & manuka honey tea. Figure I need the calming as my favorite #minibuddyread partner @Cinfhen says this book will continue to raise my BP as I read on.😤😓

Very excited to start this tonight for my weekend #minibuddyread with the ever-awesome @Cinfhen 😘❤️We are being #superchill-so if you want to join in, read along & post your thoughts--please join us. I got a couple of chapters in over dinner (Nigel Slater's Winter Salad of Pears & Blue Cheese with a piece of simply-cooked salmon). Had to pop up a blog post with the salad recipe, but hoping to get in another few chapters tonight--so interesting!🤓

Cinfhen Is it bad if I‘m more interested in your dinner than our book!?! Kidding 😬book is good, but I‘m a little overwhelmed by all the names, dates, people & places being mentioned in the first 4 chapters 🙄I am loving the photos ❤️ 7y

Cinfhen I was thinking about our vast time difference @DebinHawaii so funny, but it‘ll work well for our posting...I read about 4 chapters, informative and fascinating. Loving all the photos. I‘m always shocked by our messy US history and how as a student we weren‘t really taught much about our darker days. Sad 😞 7y
