Historical knowledge helps us avoid the mistakes of the past, and this book provides important history about the lengths to which powerful figures will go to hide their misdeeds. The author‘s diligent research and courage to expose these secrets are inspirational in the fight against police/prosecutorial misconduct today and the disregard for the rule of law and basic morality currently permeating the federal government.

I can see why Helter Skelter has enjoyed such enduring popularity. It‘s gripping, it‘s scandalous, it‘s horrifying, and Bugliosi‘s role gives it a ring of authenticity that you don‘t get with an outsider‘s perspective on a crime. I wouldn‘t recommend it blindly, though – you need to have a stomach for graphic detail. Full review: https://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/helter-skelter-vincent-bugliosi/

TheBookHippie I remember reading this decades ago. Unreal. 5mo
AmyG I (oddly enough) loved this book. I followed the story as a kid. And so began my love of true ceime. 5mo

So good, I'll just say the 3 letter government entities should probably be renamed DOA.

😵‍💫😳Wow! A very inclusive and compelling book. Great narration🎧

ChaoticMissAdventures I always think about Angela Lansbury when CM comes up. What an amazing mom she was. 1y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 1y
CoverToCoverGirl SO happy you read this one! It was definitely a WOW read for me too. The police had no idea what they were dealing with, a lot of it was just plain dumb luck. Although in their defence the crimes committed were so heinous that they weren‘t equipped to handle what was unfolding. 1y

This one still scares the hell out of me.

Prairiegirl_reading I couldn‘t finish this one. So disturbing! 1y
lil1inblue I haven't read any books about the Manson murders, but I did listen to a really good podcast about them. It was tough listening! Haunting stuff. 1y
AmyG My most favorite true crime book. I rarely read a book twice but I read this one twice. I will date myself and say I remember reading about this as a kid in the New York Times. I was fascinated. (edited) 1y
