Not a lot of reading this week but since I‘m resolved to not be a Litsy stranger again … BEHOLD my triumph over a skirting board! 🤣 This wretched thing was glued, nailed, painted and carpeted in. It took two days, a plant lever, half my tool box and the invention of a number of new expletives to get it loose but now the cabinet that‘s going there will fit flush to the wall (after I deal with the TV antenna) 🥳🥳🥳🥳

CarolynM Congratulations, that‘s a major achievement 🎉 Always glad to see you here😘 1mo
GlassAsDiamonds @CarolynM honestly - a pox on every social media renovator who just pops these things off like a jar lid. LIES I TELL YOU, *LIES*… 1mo

Fictional life of Henry 8's first wife from when she first arrived in England.

Interesting between the death of Prince Arthur and the death of Henry 7. Rather slow at times in the middle (all the does he/doesn't he still love me?) but excellent once the King's Great Matter got started and the story of the last part of her life was heartbreaking. Having read this I do wonder how the author can possibly make Anne Boleyn a sympathetic character.

Birdsong28 Don't forget to read the e shorts she did to accompany this series full list at the bottom of this page http://alisonweir.org.uk/ 5mo
rwmg @Birdsong28 I didn't know about those. Thanks for the info 5mo
Birdsong28 @rwmg There is a collection of them in one book which is the tagged book also in this book you get an extra book that was only published in America in a magazine. If you want any help on the order to read it let me know. 5mo

@sebrittainclark tells me all the books in my recent #libraryhaul have something in common, but I can't imagine what.

I thought this book had a great concept; six different authors recounting the lives of Henry VIII wives, another author to recount Henry's side of each story. I wanted to like this book but, I did not. The stories just did not flow. I struggled getting through the stories, the recount of Henry's part felt like it was just a repeat. There was nothing exciting about this book, I would recommend a big pass on this one.

This particular wife of Henry VIII always intrigued me. There was so much quite strength in her. This #chunkster was absorbing to me. For those who aren't fans of historic tombs this may be a bit of a slog but for lovers of history I highly recommend this one.

Birdsong28 If you love this series then you might be interested in the ebook shorts that go along with this series, that are intersected between each book. 10mo
KristiAhlers @Birdsong28 thanks for the heads up! This is a new to me author so I'll definitely be picking up the others in this series and I'll download those shorts! 10mo
Birdsong28 @KristiAhlers If you want help with what ebook goes with what book of this series just let me know 😊 if you look on Goodreads you can see the order. 10mo

This one challenged me because it moves so slowly but also because I was reading about perspectives and events about which I was not very familiar. Ms Gregory does a great job of portraying Katherine of Aragon as strong and independent, but she also tells this version of her story with incredible license. I feel like some of it is plausible and some is entirely made up. Still, I always enjoy Ms Gregory‘s books and this was no exception.

I‘ve been reading this one for almost a week and I‘m not even finished with the 2nd chapter yet. It just hasn‘t hooked me and I don‘t feel excited to pick it up. That‘s so weird because 1) Catharine of Aragon is so interesting to me and 2) I adore Philippa Gregory‘s stories. Maybe it just isn‘t the right story for me right now? I‘ll keep trying this evening, but if it doesn‘t catch me soon I‘ll stop it and come back to it later.

I‘m having a harder time with this than I expected to; it feels really slow-going. 😬 Hopefully it picks up a little bit. #katherineofaragon #catalinadearagonycastile #thetruequeen #alisonweir #henryviii #sixwivesofhenryviii #sixtudorqueens #tudorhistory #divorced
